I have this same problem as othjers have reported. The other day after many months of working fine, I discovered the display panel was very dim. I think it happened once before and corrected iutself overnight. I have tried unplugging etc with no success. I see that someone was given instructions on semi-reset. Is that what I should do? May I have instructions please.

Thanks.

Hey @RG2U,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I see that you are having some issues with the display on your Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer. I can help you with that.

To start, make sure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector. Once done, while the printer is powered on, remove the power cable from the back of the printer for one minute.

If after following the above the printer's display is still not readable, the printer needs to be replaced. You can contact HP Support by clicking on this link and filling out the form at the bottom to discuss options based on your warranty.

Please let me know the results after following the above. If you are able to resolve the issue or reach some resolution, please click on Accept Solution. If you appreciate my help, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am afraid it did not make any difference. Seems a shame to replace printer, as everything else works fine. Only a very dim screen.

After a couple of years working fine the  Control Panel Display of my printer got very bright to the point that the background is so white that the white letter have little contrast and can't be read (bright white letters on white background). How do I reset the Control Panel Display brightness?

What happened when you followed the instructions above by removing power from the printer???

This is the printer my wife uses in her home office so I only trouble shot it as I am not the user. My wife is.

The first couple of times I unplugged the printer and plugged it back in did nothing, but then I unplugged it for about 5 minutes or so and that fixed the issue. After cycling through the boot up the control panel screen went back to normal, so we were happy.

However about 15 minutes later my wife called me again as the control panel screen was back on super bright stage so it is almost impossible to read the bright white font on white background.

So I unplugged it again for 5 minutes and it went back to normal.  That was about 4 hours or so ago. It hasn't done it again. So now I have to see what program she was uses when/if it does it again.  I know she was trying to use the scanner the fist time around. So, stand by as we'll see what is going on when it happens again.

My guess is:

1.- The condition is repeated when the printer is in active mode (not stand by or sleep) for some time

2.- The condition is driven by some program she may have in her PC but her PC is a corporate PC and nothing can be installed and hasn't beeen installed for a long while so it is a virus protected PC in a corporate VPN. The printer is connected to her PC via the Ethernet cable.
