HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2515

Hello. I have Deskjet 2515 from Saudi Arabia and I'm currently in Philippines. I can't find any 650 cartridge for my printer here in our country so I chose 678 cartridge for it is compatible with the printer. Sadly, I need region reset since the cartridges shows error in the printer [blinking empty ink levels]. I have already called HP support and they require my old used 650 cartridge to do the regional reset but I don't have them.

But according to the HP support document I found in the Internet they only need these:

  • Your HP product
  • A full set of HP cartridges for your new country or region
  • A computer that is connected to your product

I'm confused. It's already near to impossible to buy the 650 cartridge that's super rare here in my country. Help. Is there any other solution other than having 650 cartridge to do regional reset?

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you moved and cannot get the cartridges from the old region. I would be happy to direct you to the proper department that can assist you.

You're correct, you will need to perform the Regionalization Reset. The printer was moved from Saudi Arabia to the Philippines, so the printer is rejecting the ink.

You will need to contact HP to request a "Regionalization Reset". Not all agents are trained in the reset process, so when you call request to speak to an agent fluent in "Regionalization Resets". You will need to have access to your computer and printer. You should only need to have a set of cartridges for the new region.

For more information on the subject, go here.

Contacting HP for service in all countries/regions except Asia Pacific.
First, go to Check your product warranty to check your printer warranty status, and then go to Contact HP Support to find an authorized service dealer or to schedule a repair.
Repair fees might apply for out-of-warranty printers.
What you can do, is use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on HP contact options - click on Get phone number
Case number and phone number appear.

I called the HP support already. I asked for the one fluent with regionalization resets... same agent though.

She said they don't advise doing regionalization resets without the old cartridges but she will try. We used the Applet so she can access the pc to view the printer. Did enter 5 codes and still the printer doesnt recognize the ink. Did thrice.. removing and inserting the cartridges with on and off printer but the printer refuses to recognize the ink.

She said that the region reset was succesful in her end and advised me to get the printer into an hp repair center that's only located in two place in our country.. Makati and Cebu. both places that takes a plane or ship to get there.. to check the printer and cartridges AND perform a region reset. Since the repair center are far away.. one thing to do is check the cartridges.

Truthfully, I dont know how will i able to tell if the regionalization itself worked.

I'm so looking forward to have this problem solve and... bummer..:smileysad:

I just checked again... before its just an error since the printer doesnt recognize the ink.. now it says incompatible ink cartridges.

Hi @MamiKris,

Thanks for taking the time to update me. I see that the representative was able to perform the reset, however, the printer is still complaining about the ink cartridges.

I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.

  1. Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
  2. Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
  3. Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet (don't use a power bar or a surge protector). This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.

If the issue persists, it sounds like you will need to send the printer in for servicing as they recommended.

I hope you have a great day! 🙂
