I have the same offline problem...

Is it possible to make the envy 4500 NOT wireless (to avoid the problem) and just plug it into the computer?

Thx in advance....

Hi Rings,

Yes it possible to plug the USB in and have a direct connection. This would certainly clear up your Envy 4500 from dropping off your wireless network all the time. Please select the link below for the USB installation for your current Operating System Windows 7 or 8:

Installing the Printer Software in Windows 7 for a USB Cable Connection

OR

Installing the Printer Software in Windows 8 for a USB Cable Connection

I hope this was helpful, if you require more assistance please let me know.

Thanks,

This might be an inelegant solution and perhaps makes the wireless feature void, but it appears to have solved the "offline" problem, which is all i needed to accomplish. When did printers turn into such headaches?

Thanks!

Do not have a menu/setup button.  I do have the problems you have described.  I do have a router hooked up to my computer, but the printer is not networked-it is hooked up by usb.  How do I get the needed information?  From the router's web page?  Do I have to hook my printer up as a networked printer? How will this affect the other computer/printer combos on my network?

Hello dgh123,

I understand you are having a problem with your printer going offline. Because you are plugged in with a USB, setting a static IP would not resolve this issue for you. Setting a Static IP is for printers that keep dropping off their wireless network. Alot of times simply disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable will reset the print system and it will resolve the issue. Please proceed with the steps listed below:

Step one: Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable:

Disconnect the USB cable from the back of the HP product

Disconnect the USB cable from the back of the computer.

Wait five seconds.

Reconnect the USB cable to the product and the computer. Apply some pressure to secure the connections.

Make sure that the USB cable is connected correctly. The icon on the USB cable generally faces up when the cable is connected correctly.

Step two: Test the USB connection:

Move the USB cable to another available USB port. For example, if the USB cable is plugged in front of the computer, move it to a port in the back of the computer.

Restart the computer and the HP product.

Try printing again.
Step three: Try a different USB cable:
Replace the USB cable. HP supports USB cables less than 3 meters (9 feet 10 inches) in length.

Try printing again.

I hope this was helpful, let me know if you require more assistance I would be happy to help.

Thanks,

Hello helpinphx,

I understand you would like help setting up your OfficeJet 6500 Plus. I would be happy to help you with that.

Let's go ahead and Restore Factory Defaults on the front panel of your printer:

Setup Menu > Tools > Restore Factory Defaults > Yes

Now we will run the Wireless Setup Wizard on the front panel as well:

Setup Menu > Network  > Wireless > Wireless Setup Wizard

You will be able to see your home network pop up in the populated list of networks to connect to, please have your wireless key ready as it will require the password to successfully connect.

Once you have successfully connected to your network let's go ahead and print and Network Configuration Page, this is also done on the front of your printer:

Setup Menu > Reports > Network Configuration Page

On this page you will see your printers IP address (192.168.XXX.XXX OR 10.X.X.X),  and will be able to put this into your web browser exactly as it is shown and reach your Embedded Web Server (EWS).

If you would like to do an Embedded Web Server wireless setup, you will see the Setup option to the far right of your EWS please select Wireless Setup Wizard and click Next to begin your setup.

I hope this was helpful, if you need more assistance please let me know.

Thanks,

HevnLgh

It worked! All this time I thought it was driver-related. The port's IP address was not the same as the printer's IP address. FYI, I am using Windows 7.
