The C410a All-In-One guidance is clear ... press scan and save as .jpeg to a USB or a memory card. Have scanned a document to both, at separate times, and the saved file (read when I insert the medium to read from my PC) is .HPIMAGE.VFS. Cannot find application to read the .VFS and convert to either .jpeg or .pdf. Appreciate any help.

MAHtrouble, in your USB stick (or whatever card you used) there should also be a folder named DCIM. That is the default folder that the printer creates and puts the image files in. Open that folder to find your scanned images.

The VFS file is just a Temp file the HP printer uses to navigate the saved images with faster with. It is not meant to be opened by you and can be ignored.

Hi MAHtrouble,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I see from your post that you're working with a Photosmart C410a that you'd like to use to scan to a USB stick or a memory card, but it's not saving as a readable file. I'm sorry to hear this, but I will do my best to assist you!

Do you have the printer connected to a computer at all? If so, are you able to scan to the computer and open the file?

Is the printer plugged directly to a wall outlet? If not, please move it to one.

Once I have this information, we should be able to move forward Smiley Happy

MissTerriLynn ... Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I am not reasonably able to plug the printer or the computer directly into a wall socket ... both the computer and printer are plugged into a Belken surge surpressor /extension. The reason I attempted to scan the document to the USB and then the memory card was because it was failing to scan to my computer ... I was able to select the the computer as an option; the device tell me it's scanning, then it states there is NO connection to the computer. (We purchased this as a wireless printer, and use it as such.) I am able to print most documents on my computer from this same printer; interestingly, I recently discovered that IF I open a web page from an email link, the computer pretends that it's "printing" the page, but nothing every transmits to the printer. Other suggestions?

Thank you. You might notice also that if you use digital cameras, they usually store image files in a DCIM folder as well. Hope it helps.
