Hi TheFUSE,
I see you are having problems with the scanner on your new HP Photosmart 5510. Were you able to follow the troubleshooting document that community member DevRao recommended? As it pertains to the scanner and trying to resolve the lines, bands and scan quality.
I suggest doing all steps mentioned, and if you are still running into problems with the scan quality please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region please click the link below to get the support number for your region. http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/hpsupport/index.pl.
I hope this was helpful.
Thanks,
I work on behalf of HP

You have not mentioned if you have done any troubleshooting on your printer, nor have you stated if you have read anything that is being posted to you. You clearly stated you had an issue with your scanner, that is why we have suggested to you the proper scanning document.
I suggest you call tech support seeing as you stated it was a new printer.

Somehow I don't think a speck of dust or a quick wipe down of the glass bed would cause that.
There are many many posters out there with the same screen shots. This is a common inherent fault with HP.
I will just throw it away as soon as the printer starts playing up and buy another make. It's really not worth wasting any more time trying to get to the bottom of this fault.
