Scan to network folder Mac

Finally decided to get my "Scan to Network Folder" from my M479fdw to my Mac working.  Initially it did not, and no DuckDucking found the answer.  Finally figured it out.   The main issues that I could not find answers to online were to ensure Sharing SMB password was enabled and how to identify the shared folder to the printer.

1) While not needed, I created a separate non-admin user (e.g. "scanner" which is the username that I used) on my mac to be used to authenticate to the mac from the printer.

2) Created a folder in my main mac user's directory structure /Users/mymainmacusername/Public/HPScanFolder

3) Shared that folder in System Preferences->Sharing.

  - Shared folder: "HPScanFolder"

  - Users: add "scanner" with "Read/Write" permissions

 - *** The key here. *** When that folder&user is selected, press the "Options..." button.  Enable "Share files and folders using SMB".  Ensure the "On" checkbox is selected for the "scanner" account.  When prompted, enter the "scanner" user's MacOs password that you created above.  This is key to get past the incorrect username or password issue that the printer might pop up.

4) Now go to the Embedded Web Server for your printer via a browser.

5) Selected Scan->Scan to Network Folder->Quick Sets.

6) Create a "Quick Set"

 - *** The key here. *** For the network path do not use "\\YourMacsIpAddress\Users\mymainmacusername\Public\HPScanFolder" as the file sharing identifies the shared folder only by the last part of the folder's name (e.g. HPScanFolder in my example).  This should be the name you see in the "Shared Folders" list in the Mac's System Preferences->Sharing dialog box.  Getting back to the point, in the "Quick Set" use \\YourMacsIpAddress\NameOfTheFolderYouSetupToShare.  If you do not get a username/password error when attempting the "Apply and Test" function but get an "Invalid shared folder" then you have an issue with this part of the setup.

Note: Mac Firewall can still be on for this to work.  MacOS sharing opens the needed ports for this to work.
