It is unbelievable that the technical bossess of HP allow this to happen - I mean, build a new printer that has any functionality that is worse than the older printer. In most other respects the printer is excellent. And the most important is that it does print duplex two-pages-per-sheet that the older one didn't do (unless you used third party software). The lack of automatic scanning of multiple photos or otheritems is probably because inexperienced people areallowed to do their own thing with inadequate supervision. I am still very annoyed like the other contributors to this discussion, but have to admit that on balance it's still the best machine availble at the moment.

This is not a real solution. It is a work-around to perform manually a previously automatic function. I agree with the majority of posters that while it does allow scanning multiple images, it is less efficient than simple scanning one at a time. It is quite cumbersome to scan the images after each cropping then select a new area when face with many photos. I think HP can do better.

I just want to add my voice to this discussion about losing a precious feature by "upgrading." Call me naive for assuming that being able to scan munltiple photos at once is an obvious feature of a photosmart printer. Apparently, photosmart is photostupid. I will not ever buy another HP printer. More than that, I also own an HP computer. That's a never again there, as well. Shame on you HP! Shame, shame, shame. .

Hi @JosephW1
Thanks for your feedback.
For what's it's worth, depending on which printer model you have, there are Auto Crop features in the printer Scan Software for the newer printers.
The following videos may be of help:
Scanning Multiple Photos on HP AiO Printers (2015)
Scanning Multiple photos:
HP Officejet Pro 8630
Could you let us know your printer model and operating system?
Thanks.

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback.
Try downloading the HP Scan Extended. It will give you the "More" options.
HP Scan Extended
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
Once downloaded and installed, go to
1. Start > All Apps
2. HP folder
3 HP Scan Extended
The Scan User Interface is similar to the first video:
Scanning Multiple Photos on HP AiO Printers (2015)
Do let us know if that resolves your problem.
Thanks!

Hello. Thanks for helping. I installed ScanExt and did notice something. The scan interface does not look like the video in your note (There is still no "more" button). Instead the "add selection" button (next to the reset-selection button is enabled on SOME resolutions. It's enabled at 300 and 1200. That's wonderful, but it's disabled at 600 which is where I always scan photos. Since I never use 300 or 1200 for photos, I don't even know that something changed with ScanExt. If I need to try something else, please do let me know. I appreciate your help but I still think that the name photo SMART is misplaced. This printer should never have been sold as a PHOTO all-in-one printer.

Hi,
1. Place the images you want to scan on the flatbed (maybe four 4x6 photos)
2. Select the Source as "Glass" and Page Size as "Auto Detect Size "
3. Go to "More" and select resolution as 600DPI
4. Scan
5. Go to "More" > "Manage Images", Click on the "+" sign beside "Create New Selection"
6. Crop and Straighten as necessary
7. Click on "+" sign beside "Create New Selection"Crop and Straighten 2nd image as necessary
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 if you have more images to crop.
Examples:
Select Source and Page Size
Select Resolution
Click on "+" Sign (green dot)
Crop as necessary.
Note: "Add more pages" from the scan glass is for 300dpi"and lower
Read this post for more info:
Hope that helps.

Hello. I got it figured out, I think. You have to remember that on Windows 10 (and probably 😎 nothing changes on the start menu after an install. I assumed that "ext" meant extending the current scanner software. But when I went looking for it, I found a brand new program in All Apps->HP -- not an extended program. Now it looks exactly like the software you describe and is shown in the video. So far it looks like it works. Wish I'd known about this before 😞 Thank you.
