HP Laserjet P1006
Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks

Hi

I purchased a used printer.  Trying to print via USB cable connected from iMac with OS X version 10.9.5 to hp Laserjet P1006.

I'm able to see printer by System Preferences/Printer and Scanners

Then under General, Device Name is HP_Laserjet_P1006 and Driver Version 1.5

When I try to print, it looks as if printer is printing (when watching the printer queue it looks as if the print job is being processed), but it is not.

I chose driver as Hp Laserjet Series PCL 4 / 5

Can someone help in explaining how to get printer to print?

I think I am not using the correct driver?

After a few cups of coffee, was able to figure this out:

Needed to dowload driver via the following dropdown section under the printer driver section:

Installing the driver in macOS or OS X 10.7 and later

To install the HP driver through Apple Software Update, create a new print queue on the Mac.

  NOTE:

Where is the download button? Your HP drivers automatically download and install through Apple Software Update, but if you want to manually download drivers, go to HP Printer Drivers for macOS and OS X Mavericks and later (in English)

After downloading the driver manually, the printer worked.  Hope this will help if you are having the same problem.
