Deskjet 2540
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

My wife & I purchased a Deskjet 2540 about two years ago ago, & it performed well up until this summer.  After being away for a week on vacation, we attempted to use the printer again.  No matter how large the print project was (as little as one page) we found that the printer kept claiming to have a "paper jam".

After having endured this issue w/wasted paper & having to go downstairs to clear the "jam" each time we printed, we decided to purchase a new 2540 (primarily because we had a # of HP 61 ink cartridges that had been previously purchased).

I have installed the new printer, even going so far as to use the accompanying CD & downloading the driver.  I've tried to print a test page (just a one page PDF), but I have the "Media jam! Printer offline...Spool area full" message.  How do I clear this out so that we can utilize the printer once again?

The "spool area full" message is gone, but it seems that the "Media jam!" is still occurring. Printing a simple PDF still manages to hang things up.  Any thoughts on how to eliminate that issue?

Well, now I have another issue connected to the "spool area full" problem. After unplugging the unit & plugging in again I got the accompanying error message when I hit both the black/color print buttons simultaneously: Error Code B82D2A8C.  At this point I'm still unable to get anything to print.

For the record, my wife has an Acer Aspire 5732C PC laptop.  She doesn't get the spool message, but both of us receive the "Paper Jam" message when she prints.

She merely has to go downstairs & hit the black copy button to get the printout to appear.  In other words, the projects she prints always come out, albeit w/a blank sheet of paper preceding the item printed.

Even after going through System Preferences to delete/add the printer for my Mac, it's still "Spool Area Full"/"Media Jam!" for me.

As noted in the beginning, none of this was an issue until we returned from a week's vacation a few months ago. To our knowledge there weren't any large storms/power surges/etc. while we were away, but something is amiss. Any thoughts? I appreciate your insights...
