I need TWAIN drivers for my multipurpose 8600. Ever since Windows 8.1 was loaded, the feature to scan checks to my bank does not work. I have downloaded the newest drivers from HP (the system said they were the latest - 2012 versions and that my drivers were alread up to date).

Anyone help please?

Hello MickMeck,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I see you are trying to scan your cheques into your banking software with the Officejet 8600. Are you able to scan with the provided HP software?

How to Scan: Windows 8

Try running the HP Print and Scan Dr, this will look into possible TWAIN / WIA scanning issues. Let me know what the results are.

I look forward to hear back from you.

I ran HP scan multiple times before and it kept saying everything is fine. It still does but when I run the check scanning software it says there are no TWAIN o WAI drivers.... Not fixed.

At this time I would like you to run a System File Check on the computer.

Run the System File Checker tool<---

If this does not resolve or identify an issue try the following;

  1. Go to C:\Windows folder, look for "Twain_32", which should be there. Also, look for a folder called "Twain32". If this folder exists, it will be empty. Copy and paste the contents of "Twain_32" into "Twain32".
  2. a) Go to "Services" (to access Services, press the Windows button and R, then type Run. Type "services.msc" without the quotation marks, and hit enter. Ensure the service named Remote Procedure Call is Started.
    b) Go to Shell Hardware Detection, right click, and select properties.
    c) Set the Startup Type as Manual and hit Apply. Then you should be able to Start the service by hitting Start.
    d) Try to scan using Paint or Windows Scan and Fax. See previous post for steps under How to Scan: Windows 8

Let me know the results.

I ran the system file checker multiple times. Each time I get...

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log.

When I open the log file at the bottom I find...

I find this a number of times.

I also did the second recommendation. There was no TWAIN32 folder so I created one and copied the contents of the other into it. No luck.

I am able to scan using mspaint but the software program to print checks still says I am missing the TWAIN or WAI drivers.

Are we getting closer?

Regards.

To a point, yes, we are much closer. Since you are able to scan using MS Paint (software which uses TWAIN and WIA software on the computer), you need to look into the cheque software you are trying to scan with. An uninstall and install may be needed, an update in the software, etc.

There is a Refresh option that Windows 8.1 has, something may not have updated / installed correctly when you upgraded.

I have unloaded and reloaded the cheque software multiple times. When I challenged them they said that if there isn't a scanner in the drop down then their software is loaded correctly but there is no TWAIN drivers.

I really don't want to try to refresh the PC. I am concerned about what other problems that will introduce. This laptop is only 5 months old.

Isn't there a TWAIN driver from HP that I can load? Why is this so hard?

HP Recommended

There is not, the only software available is the full feature software you have installed. I understand your frustration, I really do. The printer seems to be functioning as it should with other scanning methods, the odd thing out is the cheque program on Windows 8.1.

Do you have another computer to install the printer and the cheque application onto? I know it was working prior to getting Windows 8.1, but this could be at least a work around till the actually cause / issue is addressed.

I can use the other computer.  I guess my 8600 doesn't like windows 8.1. Thanks for trying.
