Officejet V40
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

The control panel on my Officejet V40 printer is not working. The on-off light is not lit, the digital display is not lit, and none of the control buttons will work. However, when printing is ordered from my computer it prints as usual. Hoping there may be a quick fix like a loose connection, etc.

Welcome to the HP Forum! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!

 

I understand that you are facing issues with the printer display and the front panel buttons. I would suggest you perform a power drain on the printer to try and fix this issue. Here are the steps:

 

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Thanks for your reply and sorry for the late response, but I have been out of the country.

I tried the suggested fix a couple of times and it does not fix the problem. Is there anything else you can suggest? Again, the computer turns on when it has power (without using the power button) because nothing on the control module on front of the machine lights up or works.

I am afraid that it looks like a hardware issue on the printer. I would recommend you contact the HP phone support to get the printer replaced or for a possible upgrade.

 

You can visit http://www.support.hp.com/contact-hp and fill in your product details to get the tech support number.

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

Thanks, I thought that might be the problem. The machine is about 20 years old I think, so trying to get it repaired would not be feasible. I will go to the HP store and buy another machine.
