I have an HP LaserJet M1530 MFP Series PCL 6.  When I print normally there are no image errors, however whenever I make a copy I get a thick black vertical line down the entire length of the page. The black line is about 2 inches from the left edge of the page. The problem is older than the current print cartridge/drum which was just replaced a couple of months ago. The problem never occurs with normal printing, only copying, and occurs with every copy with no exceptions. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Hello, have you tried cleaning the glass of the scanner? If the machine is only doing lines when scanning, then I would look there to see if the glass/slit glass is dirty.

Hope this helps....

Thank you for responding. The thing that is interesting about this problem is that there is no black line when scanning or regular printing. In other words, if I scan some documents into a pdf, they all appear correctly in the pdf without any image errors. Likewise, when I print the image shows normally as it should. So there is some process or component that is unique to copying that needs to be cleaned, recalibrated, replaced, etc.

How would I go about obtaining the service manual for this printer? (not the user manual but a technicians service manual)

We have been assuming that the unique thing is using the ADF vs the flatbed to copy/scan.

A single dot with ADF becomes a line.

Same here.........only I have the F4200.  My scanner glitched a long time ago, but will still scan for copies.  Suddenly, that nice, thick black line down the left margin happens every time I run a copy.  I can print documents from my computer & they are just fine.  My printer & screen are clean, so that's not it.  I uninstalled & reinstalled the printer...........twice.  No luck.

Is the line appearing only when you use the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder)?

If so, then you have a piece of paper/dirt/whatever stuck on the tiny window slit at the extreme end of the scanner flatbed glass.  The scanner parks itself at this slit when a document is fed from the top.

Look where the line is appearing.  Blow out any dirt or paper with a can of compressed air, or a soft brush.

Not an ADF.  Just a flat bed that opens at the top & takes one document at a time.  I brushed & blew all around the edges & it's still doing it.  I'm about ready to throw it across the room.
