I'm having issues with my printer since moving to a new home. I had shut-down the printer before removing the cable, but seems like might have pulled the power cable sooner than shut down.

Since that time, the printer is in a loop with message 'To avoid damage use the power shutdown button...' - how do I get it to stop and work again.

Please assist!

Thank you.

Darn!

I was really hoping that wouldn't be the issue.

So, if I understand correctly, the issue you are receiving looks like this;

"It powers up and displays the HP logo and process bar animation for about one minute, followed by the message: "Improper Shutdown.  To avoid damage use the ON button to shut down the printer.  Do not use a power strip or wall switch to shut down.  Press OK".  Then it shuts down and starts back up again."

Try this:

1. While the printer is still turned on, unplug all cables and cords at the back of the printer.

2. Unplug the power cord also from the wall outlet...

3. Wait for two minutes.

4. Reconnect power cord to the wall outlet first.

5. Press and hold the pound (#) and six (6) buttons.

6. While holding down the two buttons, reconnect the power cord to the back of the printer and after two seconds, release pound and six buttons.

7. Turn on the printer if it turns off...

Third times the charm, right? **crosses fingers**

Hi VinnyAnand,

That's super frustrating!

Have you tried  'Turn Power Off then On' Message Displays on the Control Panel? Though the message is slightly different, the troubleshooting solution might resolve the same error.

I hope this resolves your issue. Good luck!

Spoiler
I have followed all the steps in the process enlisted and the problem continues.

The printer seems to be in some form of loop. Also it creates a feeder tray noise (likely from the photo tray)!

Anything else you recommend!

Hmmmm, okay, let's try this:

Hold down all 4 buttons at the same time (Setup, Cancel, Auto Answer, Quality) then hit the power button.  Keep holding the 4 buttons for 20 seconds and then let them go.

I hope this works for you!!!

Jesyka, I do not have a quality button on C6180 all in one printer - is there another button to use instead?

Thanks

Is there anyway the entie software on the printer can be downloaded (afresh) from the USB cable? The issue I have been having keeps creeping from time to time and wonder if that entire version of software on the printer can be replaced.

Likelyhood of something in the software is causing the printer to remain stable!

Please advise.

Thanks.
