Since I purchased this printer the status for the toner has been off. The toner is running out even though the status bar show anywere from 20% to 40% left. This happens with every color everytime.

What could be causing this issue?

Thank for your help.

Two likely causes:

1. Your toner cartridges are defective and leaking toner

2. You are consistently printing more per page than what your cartridges are rated at

Option 1 should be easy to debunk.  Open up the printer and seach for loose toner.  If you have bad cartridges it will look like a rainbow inside the toner bay.

Option 2 is a more likely solution.  Cartridges are rated according to specific ISO's.   Check the cartridge specs for clarification on what ISO your cartridges are using.  These ISOs are what determine the estimated remaining toner in your cartridges.  There is no active toner cartridge measurement, its all base on estimations from the ISO.  Thus if you print less than the ISO your cartridges will last longer, printing more will run your cartridges out sooner.

And then there is a distant 3rd option.  There could be some kind of firmware problem with the printer that is throwing off your results.  Its always a good idea to update firmware to the latest when persuing strange problems like this to rule that one out.  Be sure to referance the supply levels directly on the printers control panel or from a supply status report.
