It's 2016 now and in case someone still needs an answer to this...here's how I was able to make it work.
The scanner was doing scan from glass instead of scanning the negatives...and mainly because that's what I was doing before switching to scan negatives. I was able to make it work by turning off the scanner and turning it back on and scan for negatives... good old power off/on solution. Hope this helped.
