I have the same problem and disabling the printer status worked for me.

HP Recommended

- Goto Printer and select HP 2055dn (currently using "PCL6" driver)

- Right click and select "Printer properties"

- Goto "Device Settings" tab

- Goto "Installable Options" settings

- Duplex Unit: Installed

- Printer status notification: DISABLED

Press "OK" to accept!

This seems to be a printer drive issue. PCL 6 Universal driver will not work well with some older models.

I have managed to resolve this issue by intalling PCL 5 Universal driver.

Changing the Printer Status Notification did work, but I had to power off the printer, then power it back on for it to take.

Changing the notification caused no behavior change UNTIL I powered off and on.

In Win 7, this is

Customize your printer,

Device Settings

Printer Status Notification: Change to Disabled.

OK (not just Apply)

Power off Printer

Power on Printer.

Try it now.

Thank you soo much!  My IT department was unable to help me for the past month, but I was able to solve it myself by google searching and finding your post.  Thank you for posting this!!!

Ive read all the messages about this problem and I still cant get mine fixed.  I have a HP 2320 and I just installed software for a HP Pro 200 Color M251nw and started having this problem!  they are both using PCL6.  When I go in to the device settings for the 2320 (which is where the message is being printed out), I cant change the "printer status notifications" which is set at enabled.  Its light colored, not black, and when you click on it you get nothing.  You cant change it.  The new 200 already has that disabled.

So how do I fix this?  Im wasting tons of paper!  HELP!!!

I have the same problem.  I just spent over 1.5 hours last night with a HP person in control of my computer, busily replacing drivers, for each component of the laserjet 1536 dnf multifunction machine, then updating the firmware.  At the end, the same error persisted.   She had been very patient, worked very hard at it, but ultimately told me it HAD to be in the operating system, and gave me a number for Microsoft.  Before she had done her work, the fix many people have said worked, did NOT, for me: under Devices and Printers (Windows 8.1), specific printer right clicked, Printer Properties, Device Settings, Printer Status Notification switched to disabled.  But since she serviced the printer and the software, that option is grayed out.  I have yet to set aside the time to consult Microsoft.  But if anyone has other ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. djhmd22

Turning off notification worked for me but to get past the 'greyed out' issue I had to provide admin credentials at the first printer screen:

(Win7Pro)

Start

Devices and Printers

Right-Click the printer

Printer Properties

There was a new button called 'Change Properties' at the botton with a UAC shield, click that

provide Admin credentials

now the Notification option is available to disable.

Turning off the disable notification worked for me the second time.  It did not work the first. I think I neglected to hit the "apply" button to apply the fix. On the second try, I hit the apply button and it is fixed. Good luck. I know this is a pain in the butt and a waste of paper.
