I unfortunately allowed virus to ht computer. Now my Laser jet will not print advising " Printer top open or cartridge not fitted.
The virus seems to have transferred to printer memory as this problem exists on several compurters even onse not hit by virus or connected to internet.
How can I access printer memory and remove?

Hey @Bushepilot,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are having some messages with an error message on your Windows 7 PC related to your Laserjet 1018 Printer. While that is not virus related, I can assist you with troubleshooting.
To start, make sure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector. Once done, if you are still unable to print, please let me know if there are any lights on the printer that are blinking or solid. Once I know that I will be better able to assist you.

i have done as requested.
My printer was plugged into an extension socket, so I removed and plugged into a permanent wall socket. Switched on, ran print test page. Printer activates then goes into fault condition with onlly amber fault light blinking.
ihave now had computer fully checked and all malware/viruses removed. There are no faults that can be detected.
The message(originally referred to " Laserjet 1020" now correctly says Lasejet1018, but advises that either the top cover is not fully closed or toner cartrige not fitted. Both these items have been fully checked and confirmed OK. It is suspected there may be a faulty microswitch somewhere.

A blinking yellow light suggests the printer thinks it is having a hardware issue. This document should assist you with troubleshooting blinking light errors on the printer. This document was designed for Windows XP, so skip any directions related to your PC and do any troubleshooting steps on the printer.
If after following the above the light still won't clear then:
- If the printer is connected through a USB cable, remove it.
- Turn the printer off.
- On your PC click on Start and open Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on any icons of your printer listed.
- Click on Remove Device.
- Repeat for any other icons of your printer listed.
- Click on Start, in your Search bar type in Services and open Component Services.
- Click on Services (Local) on the left.
- On the right, right-click on Print Spooler.
- Click on Stop.
- Open your C:\ drive, then Windows, System 32, Spool, and Printers.
- Delete everything in this folder.
- Return to the Component Services window.
- Right-click on Print Spooler.
- Click on Start.
- Turn your printer on and wait for one minute.
At this point if the light is blinking, the printer is still having a hardware issue and needs to be replaced. You can contact HP Support by clicking on this link and filling out the form at the bottom to see what options you have available.
If the light is not blinking, connect the printer through a USB cable or go to Devices and Printers and click on Add Printer to add a new queue for your printer.
Please let me know the results after following the above. If you can print or reach some resolution, please click on Accept Solution. If you appreciate my help, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.
