HP Officejet 4630 e
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to set up Windwos 10 faxing. When I click on the new fax button, Windows 10 asks me for my fax server name.  I printed the configuration page for the printer.  Under general information, Hostname it says HPF5E758 so that is what I entered.  Windows 10 returns an error message stating "the mentioned fax server is not available.  Please correct the server name and try again."

So, what do I enter as the server name?

Hi,

The Fax printer in Windows 10 us rrelevant to your HP Printer, that referes to faxing with a modem card connected to your PC.

You should select the 'Fax - HP Officejet 4630' icon to send a fax from the computer through your HP device, then follow the steps on screen.

If you may not have such icon listed, eitehr reinstall the HP Software or install the HP Universal Fax Driver instead:

Shlomi:
Thank you for your reply. I have the icon on my desktop that you refer to and I am able to send a fax through that piece of software. My eventual goal is to write my own small faxing application. I have sample code that I found on a Microsoft forum and that code required the fax server name just like the Windows 10 fax app. The code sample is in visual basic under the .net 4.0 framework. I would think that the HP application (that executes when I click on the icon) connects to the fax server via the fax server name. If I knew the fax server name I should be able to connect to the fax server as well.

Hi,

The HP Fax driver does not connect to a fax server, the HP Application directl communicate with the HP Device.

A Fax Server only rellies to faxing with a modem care on your PC, not to a 3rd party hardware such as an All-In-One.

Hope that make sense,

Shlomi

so what you are telling me is that there is no way to write an application which can communicate with the 8620?  That doesn't make much sence to me.  How would a package like rightfax connect to the fax process?
