You are right, Henry. I have worked with Windows 8 just a week, and I came from Windows XP...
I tried to download the file again but I didn't see the message you mention. I have downloaded other files, but none of them as big as this one. Then, it seems logic that the download request times out, as it last at least one hour, depending on the time of the day or night I have tried to make it.
My printer is old -old for the world of hardware. I cannot remember, perhaps 6 or 7 years. And I have used it a lot! Almost on a daily basis, both to print and scan documents.

This is troublesome because it is possible that there are more than 1 problem.
1) Are you certain that the HP driver package that you are trying to download says that it is suitable for Windows 8? If it isn't, that may be the reason that it won't download. I'm really unfamiliar with what happens in such a case.
2) If you have downloaded other files without having to answer the Permission thing., then your setup with Windows 8 is different than mine with Windows 7. I have to authorize every download. I do not think this permission-thing is dependent on size of the download file .
3) Sometimes, a Permission Menu Box can be hidden behind a full-screen webpage. If your printer IS supported by a Windows 8 driver package, you should start the HP download again and then minimize the displayed page, and look for a menu box that was hidden, which requests permission to continue with the download. If you find this, click OK, of course.
4) If there is no Windows 8 HP driver package for the printer model that you have, then I'm sorry to suggest that your printer simply will not run on Windows 8. That would be the single answer for your download problem. This situation is almost standard for older software (say, WinXP software)! In the case of software, that can usually be upgraded (at a price?), or it could even become obsolete (i.e., unsupported for Windows 8). You may be in the unfortunate situation that you'll need to buy a more modern printer because the old one is unsupported. The good news is that new printers are not very expensive and they may even work better than you remember for your old one.
Good luck.
Henry

Dear HP Engineer
The link http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02463264 does not, repeat not, take me to where I can download Solution Center.
After 5 screens of useless information I end up with audio drivers, video drivers, network and more. One of the useless screens asked me to enter my product number and then refused to accept it - despite HP's own servers having found that number for me!
When I click on an HP site and link that says HP All-in-One Products - Windows: How to Get HP SolutionCenter - c02463264 why cannot I just get solution center in one simple download?
I have by now wasted at least an hour on this and just because HP wants to "improve my experience"! Therefore in the midst of all this I got three different screens asking me to give feedback on "my experience" and on "this page".
If I sound just a tad annoyed, it's because I am furious.
Can anyone help with the download - and please don't send me back to the HP site. It's worse than useless.

Please read this post then provide some details. What printer model? What operating system?
HP Solution Center is not a seperate download, it is included for certain models and operating systems as part of the full featured driver download.
If you provide this information then someone here may be able to help you. Without this information it will be nearly impossible ....

Hi Bob:
Thanks for the quick response.
My operating system is Windows 7, 64 bit and I have all the latest updates automatically from Microsoft.
The printer is an HP Photosmart All-in-One C3180. My computer is an HP notebook G-series; product number G62-264CA (which HP online found automatically and then refuses to accept as a product number).
This computer had Solution Centre on it when I bought it 2 years ago, but a few months ago there was some sort of hardware issue. The computer would be "working" but the screen was black and stayed black. I am told by the tech guys where I bought it that the motherboard had something replaced and in the process all my programs and data were deleted. I had backups for all my data as the techies said they would re-load all the programs - all except Solution Centre!
The HP programs I have are the following:
- HP Power Plan Utility
- HP Update
- HP Wireless Assistant
- within HP Advisor I have: HP Advisor, HP Setup, PC Alerts, PC Dashboard, PC Discovery, PC Dock and Tour of the last 2
- HP Help and Support has HP Support Assistant.
Cheers/Marcis

The full featured driver for the C3180 in Windows 7 x64 does include Solution Center. You can download this from HP here.
Once the download has completed double-click on the file to run the installer. At this point the C3180 should not be connected by USB to your computer, you will do that later when instructed to by the installer. Early in the installation process is the following screen, click on the "Selected Software" link. This will bring up the second screen shown below, make sure Solution Center is selected, OK (which will bring you back to the top screen, check the "I have reviewed..." box, Next and the installation should continue.

Thanks very much Bob!
That solved my problem.
I tried to click on the Kudos' star but nothing happened, but you definitely have kudos from me.
Also there was no Accept as Solution button, but I do accept you answer as the solution.
