So I've decided to get rid of my HP Envy 4507 as there seems to be a fault in terms of faint dark lines in photos.
I want HP because I love the instant ink service, but unsure which one to get?
Needs to be compact really, but I want the best for photos. There's so many different variances of HP printers, it's hard to tell which one is the one for me.
There's the Envy 5640 for £69.99 but the Envy 5540 for £49.99 - I can't tell why the difference in cost?!
I did look at the OfficeJet 5740 but it's slightly too wide for where I can store it.
Please help?! I just want high quality photo prints.
Thanks

Hi,
The Envy 5640 is much better
http://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05031545
when compare to the Envy 5540:

There is a more compact series called Envy 5330 :

I can really only voice my opinion, and even that depends on you. Do you intend to subscribe to Instant Ink? If so, I suggest the Envy 5640. I like that it has a 2 ink system and supports single cartridge mode.
If you're going to buy retail cartridges and not subscribe to Instant Ink, the Officejet would be the better choice because when you run out of one color you will not be in the position to replace a tricolor cartridge and feel like you're wasting ink. Wasted ink = wasted money.
To be completed honest, I like the Instant Ink service because it doesn't matter how much ink I use, the cartridges don't expire, and it really is far more cost efficient than buying retail cartridge.
Go to either the support pages, or sales pages and compare the 2 devices for yourself. Look at reviews and other customer's experiences with the printer. This might help you to make the right decision.
The Officejet is eligible with Instant Ink too, but if you run out of in or have an issue with one cartridge than the printer wouldn't work until you get it sorted, it does not support single cartridge mode like the Envy.
Everybody has their own opinion and experiences with these devices. Some people printer more than others, need higher quality, or care less about quality and more about speed. The very best thing I can suggest is, again, for you to look at the printer specifications to see for yourself which each printer has to offer.

I do use Instant Ink yes and that's why I'm choosing to stay with a HP.
I had the Envy 4507 and I found photo prints to not be very good - i.e. very faint lines across photos due to poor quality printing.
I kinda think the 5640 may be the same...

@jaydog69 wrote:Also, the 5640 only got rated 3 out of 5 for photo printing which isn't really good.
If you wish to print good quality photos at home, you need to buy a printer with 5 or 6 ink tanks (cartridges) and they are more expensive (in terms of running cost). Normally printers which has 4 cartridges (or 2: one black plus one tri-color) are not really good for photos. Please check the following link

You may settle for an HP Envy 4520 if you wish to spend less.
