I have downloaded HP ePrint onto my Kindle Fire (first generation).  The app was gotten from the Amazon app store where I searched for printer apps for Kindle Fire.  I am using the HP ePrint with my iPhone4 and iPad2 and can print from both of them with it.  The Kindle Fire does not find the printer on my wireless network using ePrint.  I am wondering why this is happening when both the other mobile devices found it easily.  Can anyone tell me what I might need to do to in order to access the HP Photosmart Premium Fax All-in-One Printer - C309a on the Kindle Fire?

I did set up the wireless connection on the HP printer and was able to print from my Kindle to it.  However,  my iPad and iPhone will not print to the HP printer through the wireless connnection.

I reconnected my USB cable to the AirPort but left the WiFi connection on the HP printer and now I can print from the iPad and iPhone and the Kindle.  My PC Inspiron 1525 and my PowerBookG4 can print to the HP Printer using the WiFi or through the USB connection.

The Kindle Fire is an Android OS device, so the app it uses will not be the same as the Apple devices.

What is the exact name of the app being used?  HP has two available for Android Devices:  HP ePrint Home and Biz app and the ePrint Services app.

What brand and model is the router?

I downloaded the HP ePrint Home and Biz app for the Kindle Fire from the Amazon Store.  (I got the HP ePrint app for the iPad 2 and iPhone4 from the Apple Store).

I am using an Apple AirPort Express router with the HP Photosmart Premium Fax All-in-One Printer - C309a  printer connected by USB to the router.  (The instructions for the printer stated that you could not use the wifi with Apple products).  I have a Mac laptop and iMac as well as a Dell Inspiron 1525 that I use with this printer.

Thank you so much for any help you can give.

C309a  printer connected by USB to the router.  (The instructions for the printer stated that you could not use the wifi with Apple products).

That will be the issue.  The app only works with printers that are connected to the router without using a USB method.  The printer will need to be connected to the router with a wireless or Ethernet connection.

Could you provide the documentation that states the printer will not work wirelessly with Apple products as that is completely false.  However, the printer does not work with Apple's Airprint which is something very different from a plain wireless connection.  The ePrint app on Apple devices will still work if the printer is connected to the router (not using the USB cable).

I assure you the printer will work wirelessly with Apple products.  It just does not work natively for devices that use Airprint as their printing protocol, but the HP ePrint app will allow basic printing (even to a wireless printer).

If you want to know more about how to get the printer on a wireless network, follow the steps in this document from HP for your respective operating system.  It has the steps on how to get this printer on a wireless network.  Once it is on the wireless network, I am certain the ePrint app will work as long as the Apple device is on the same network.

Let me know what happens.

I am trying to get my Kindle Fire to print to the HP Photosmart Premium Fax All-in-One Printer - C309a.

My iPad and iPhone do print to the HP that is connected by USB.  I have the HP ePrint app from the Apple Store on both and they print beautifully even though the printer is connected to the USB port of my AirPort express.  It's the Kindle Fire that won't print.

The app is not designed to work with USB connected printers on routers.  You are lucky that it actually did work on the other devices.  I have seen this issue time and time again and the only resolution I have found is to connect the printer to the router the way a standard networked printer would be.  Printing without a driver, such as the HP ePrint app, is very different from printing with a driver which is what connecting to the USB port of the router is actually made for.  This has time and time again proven to be a problem with driverless printing as it is simply not a true compatible connection that the app is designed to work with.

Is there any reason you do not want to connect the printer to the wireless network?  The reason provided in the previous message was based on false information.

The only other explanation I have is that the app is actually not the same version.  The Amazon AppStore is not an official Android app store and the apps in it are often times a few versions behind.  The app is not designed to work with a printer connected to the router and it is actually not support.  I cannot make it work in this way.  Sorry.

I assure you you will not lose any functionality by connecting the printer to the router wirelessly instead of a USB cable.  This is the absolute best chance for success.

That is very strange.  I am not certain why the iPad and iPhone could not print to it on a wifi network.  I tested an iPad and an iPad with a c309a on a wireless network and was successful with the HP ePrint app in every attempt.

I am glad it is working for you with both connections present at least.  I assure you the app and printer work with Apple devices on wireless networks as I have worked with people in many interactions and have done exactly what your devices were not able to do.  I am certain that there is a separate underlying issue, but there is no need to go any further since it is working.

Thanks for letting the community know what resolved the issue.  :generic:

I figured it out.

I needed to add the wireless printer to the iPad and iPhone and it was not obvious as to how to do this.  It was not in the regular Settings feature but when I wanted to print something, in the bottom right corner to the left of the print button I noticed another settings button.  This is where you change printers and the wireless printer was listed here.

So I am happy, but it has taken three days to resolve this.

About the comment I made about not being able to print wirelessly using Mac computers - I have had two all-in-one HP printers with wireless capacity.  It may have been that I was recalling the first one.

Thanks for all your help!

You said that you found a printer that allowed you to print from a kindle fire...what exactly was the model number to the printer, and where can I purchase one?? I'd really, really appreciate a response soon thanks!
