Thank you SO VERY MUCH for the easy steps to set up my Photosmart 7550 printer to my new HP desktop computer.  I tried HP customer support and since the printer is no longer supported by HP they said too bad, buy a new printer.  I also called customer support at Costco (where I purchased the computer) they said after finding that the 7550 is no longer supported by HP; too bad, buy a new printer.  Since this wa not acceptable to me, I took my son's advise that you can find any answer online.  THANK You for posting this information.  I am a senior and it was very helpful to find your answer.  Now I can use my printer and the ink cartridges I have on hand.  Thank you so much for sharing this information.

After I followed your instructions on downloading the driver for Photosmart 7550 I keep getting the message that the printer is not responding and that it may not be plugged in properly to the PC and turned on but it is what else can I do

Re: Windows 10 drivers for photosmart 7550

The HP Photosmart 7550 can indeed be used with Windows 10 and with Windows 8.1 for that matter. You just have to manually install the printer and use the compatible driver that is built into Windows.

Here's how. Just follow this simple step by step procedure and your printer will be up and running very quickly.

  1. Plug in the printer and connect it to your computer
  2. Turn it on
  3. Right click the start button and click the following:
  4. Control Panel
  5. Devices and Printers
  6. Add a printer
  7. Click The printer that I want isn’t listed
  8. Add a local printer with Manual Settings
  9. Next
  10. Use an existing port
  11. DOT4_001 (HP Print Device)
  12. Next
  13. Under Manufacturer Select HP
  14. Under Printers Choose HP Photosmart 7520 series Class Driver
  15. Next
  16. Select Use the Driver that is currently installed or replace current driver (it doesn’t matter which)
  17. Next
  18. Printer Name appears click next
  19. Do not share this printer
  20. Next
  21. Print a test page
  22. Close
  23. Finish

See you don't need to throw away your expensive high quality printer. You just have to know how to set it up with the new OS.

Let me know if this helps you!

Thank you, Tom, for this very helpful information.  I just upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10, and this was the missing link.

Tom,

You saved me, again!!!  I used your instructions when I first got my all in one HP 23-q227c computer with Windows 10  in June  and my photosmart printed would not work with it.  You saved me the cost of a new printer, plus I had several ink cartriges for that printer. I thanked you then.  But yesterday I updated Windows 10 (per pop-up suggestion from Windows 10) and it reset the printer to He something.  So thankfully your original post of 23 very easy steps to install the photosmart printer was still online!! Thank you so very much for saving me AGAIN!  Now I have copied and saved the 23 steps just in case I need to do this again in the future.   Again, being a senior citizen your 23 steps were easy to understand and complete.  Thanks

Thanks much Tom.  Your solution worked and got the old 7550 working with Windows 10!  Just a few logical modifications to your solution.
