Hi, yes I have printed the Network page.  It says it's connected to my network.   I am unable to type the printer ip address into a browser and access it (it's just http://number, right? - it automatically puts the http even if I don't type it).  I have tried plugging printer into router with ethernet (with USB to my laptop and without since i wasn't sure if that was the reason) and no luck.  I have also tried with just the USB cable connected from laptop to printer and no luck.

I'm using Windows 7 and Norton Internet Security.   When I originally tried installing the printer I received the same IP address isn't compatible as the first post here.   HP phone tech guy changed the IP address of the printer but that didn't help.

Thank you so much for your assistance!

Norton may be getting in the way.  If you can, disable its firewall temporarily (or, if that does not work, the whole security system temporarily) and try the IP in a browser again.

If it works, then we know we need to go work on Norton configuration.

I was reading another post that said to turn off network adapter before disabling Norton... to remain protected.  How do I do that?

I did go ahead a disable firewall and virus protection but it still didn't work with printer connected via ethernet to router.   Maybe because I didn't disable the whole Norton?  Should we still go ahead and configure Norton?  - does that mean to add the printer as safe?

Also, another post was saying something about Vista not recognizing networks that are public... not marked as private under Network and Sharing.  Maybe Windows 7 is same?  I tried looking for that designation under Network and Sharing just to check what mine said but ddn't see it.

Let's assume for a minute that the printer is properly connected to your router via a wireless connection.

Let's try to add the printer to your computer manually.  It may not work because the software may not have fully installed, but I think it will get you printing functionality, which is a good start.

These directions are for Vista, 7 will be similar:

1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address.
2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Printers.
3. Click the Add a printer
4. Select Local printer
5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's host name (found on the printer's network configuration report the generated above). Click Next.
If you get a message about Additional Port Information Required, then the printer was not found using the host name. You can go back and retry or using the printer's IP address instead of the host name.
7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
10. You may be asked to share the printer. Make a choice and click Next.
11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
12. Click Finish.

My friend is having the exact same problem, and best I can tell it's a problem with the wireless radio in the C390g.  Here are the symptoms:

1.      He can successfully make a wireless connection to the printer, and it works fine for a while.

2.      After a while, the printer looses the wireless connection, as evidenced by the disappearance of the antenna icon on the display.  When this happens, you cannot print to the printer, and running a wireless self test on the printer shows a ‘Fail’ under the ‘No Filtering’ section.

3.      I can simulate the problem by power-cycling the router, after which the printer fails to reconnect automatically – I must power-cycle the printer to force it to reconnect.

4.      Other wireless devices automatically reconnect to the router after it is power cycled.

5.      The wireless router is located a few feet from the printer, so signal strength isn’t a problem.

6.      MAC filtering is not enabled on the wireless router.

So it appears something is causing the printer to lose connection to the wireless router, and after that happens the printer is unable to automatically reconnect.

I am not able to access the ip address through the web.  I spent 6 hours  on phone last night with level 2 tech at HP.  He was very helpful and fixed a couple of corrupt files, etc.  He said my laptop was a mess... my NEW laptop.  I guess from trying to install the software and having techs download updates trying to fix it.  There were some other issues with ip addresses getting things confused.    At the end of the 6 hours he was able to install software completely, set up two printer icons... one USB and one wirelessly and get the printer to print remotely (a first) and scan.  However, he said that it still needed to be fixed correctly as far as the confusing three ip address.  I don't know.. .above my head.  Well, today I turned on laptop and printer and laptop doesn't even have the printer saying it's installed under Devices and Printers.  As if all we did for 6 hours was for naught.  He was supposed to call me back today a couple of hours ago but has yet to call.   I'm on phone again just now.

Actually, that's not the same problem that I'm having.  I never lose the wireless light.

After 30 plus hours on phone with HP with MANY techs and even a call or two to D-Link router people, PROBLEM SOLVED!  I finally spoke with an HP tech in Canada who knew exactly what the problem was.   No matter what anybody tells you, N router is NOT compatible with the G printer if set to receive "N" signal.  I  don't understand it all but think the deal is that N router is backwards compatible and can talk to printer but when printer talks to N router is gets confused.  Mine kept going offline and my router was set as B/G/N.   So, we went into router configeration page and changed it in dropdown menu to just "talk" G.  Everything has been working great for about four days now. Thank you Robert in Canada!!!

Please tell me how to access the router to change the configuration.  I'm not very knowledgable about computers.  I spent 6 hours on the phone today with an HP tech but he couldn't solve the problem.  The printer is getting the wrong IP address from the router so the laptop can't find the printer even tnough the printer says it's connected.    Do you know how to contact  Robert in Canada?

I'm having the same problems, I can't get my laptop to connect to the printer. I even got fed up and tried to plug it in with usb, that doesn't even work! I don't get it, the wireless works perfect with my desktop running xp. Heck, I can even print from my iPhone just fine. My laptop with windows 7, nope, nothing! The wireless works with everything but my laptop, I don't think it is a router problem.
