HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer series - N911
macOS 10.12 Sierra

I need instructions on how to reset my printer.  My husband somehow managed to choose a setting that disabled the network.  We get this message:  "Built-in network capabilities have been disabled.Contact network administrator or person who set up the printer."

Hi @DotD,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!

I understand that your Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-In-One Printer is giving an error message that built in wireless capabilities have been disabled. I can help you with that.

I'm going to send you some directions regarding how to perform a factory reset on your printer. You should see them in a private message shortly.

Please let me know if this allows you to enable wireless again or if you have any other questions. Otherwise, have a great week!

Thank you very much for the reply.  I cannot get the instructions to work.  The first step begins with a Menu item which I do not see.  I will not name it here because you don't want instructions posted in public.

On the LCD, I see only the following icons:  Copy, Fax, Scan, Apps, Photo, Setup, Discover.  Pressing the "?" button llsts Help topics, but none of those apply. The Setup menu has these options:  Fax Setup, Network, HP Digital Solutions Setup, Tools, Preferences, Schedule On and Off, Reports.  None of these menus has any submenu with that name, either.

If I cannot get that menu, what can I do?  I should add that I also tried yesterday to connect my Mac to the printer with an ethernet cable, and the connection failed, saying that the printer did not respond.

My husband has some memory problems, and doesn't know what he did to put the printer into this state.  He remembers the words "factory" and "enable/disable".

Okay, I finally found the menu.  Now to try the rest of the instructions.  Will let you know. 🙂

The connection is working again.  Thank you.

I understand that you have an HP Officejet 6500 Plus e-All-in-One Printer. I read that there is a message appearing on the printer saying "Built-in network capabilities have been disabled".

I am sending you a private message with the steps to reset the printer. Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.

Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile,

Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Please reply back on the public post as this Private message box is not monitored.

I hope this helps resolve this issue completely,
