I turned off my C309a for a few days in mid-December and when I returned, I too had the message "USB Device Not Compatible" but no USB device was inserted. Now "wireless working" fails and I'm unable to print. The HP Solution Center also isn't working, even after uninstalling and reinstalling it.
So far I've tried unplugging the device, turning wireless on/off, reinstalling software... none of it solves the issue. This is a big piece of equipment to junk, but I think I may have to because there's work to be done and I need a printer!
C'mon HP... step up and communicate a solution to this problem!

The common workaround re the wireless going down is to plug into a wireless router, if you have that capability, ie. I run Macs, so I simply connected the 309 to an Airport base station via an ehthernet cable. It gets the printer back on the network, just hardwired.

Mine is out of warranty but stopped working about 4 months after warranty ended--I have been connecting mine by the cable when I want to use it, recently bought new cartridges which cost almost $100, and this is not why I bought this printer. Sounds like we are all having the same problem with the wireless radio.

Yes. The printer works fine if you connect it by cable ( running across the room). I understand this was one of their better printers, but obviously their wireless radio supplier sold them bad equipment. Too much to pay for a printer to fail after one year.
Looking at other printers now. Lesson learned, will not use this brand again.

Hi, I am having the same wireless radio problems and have tried all the provided suggestions to no avail.
I would like to for the moment connect my PC to the printer to do some urgent printing.
How hard is this to do (if it is doable...) ?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks !

It is my understanding that you have two options other than wireless to connect this printer. you can connect to your router with a LAN cable or with a USB printer cable to your computer. after doing either run the installation software, and you should be good to go

This problems is SO annoying. i contacted HP while I was still under warranty. They had me do some reset stuff and got the printer back working (it was an intermittent problem). Now that my warranty is out and my printer is DONE. And of course, HP refuses to help me, even though I contacted them to fix this problem before my warranty was out. Personally, I am going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
In addition, this is our second problem with HP. My husband had a HP laptop. He was having problems with it. He called HP support. They did a whole bunch of reset things. Then the laptop failed again, but this time it was out of warranty. I think that this is HP's "thing" Reset-reset to avoid having to actually fix anything. Because the reset seems to work a few times, at least long enough to let the warranty expire. HP is an AWFUL company.

Have had identical wireless failure and "disconnect the non-existent incompatible USB device" message, just after the warranty expired. Great idea, purchasing a new WiFi card. Found one today for $9.99 and placed the order right away!

If you plug in the usb cable it will work (may have to go in and click add device in the windows startup menu), also downloading the bluetooth drivers will allow it to work too.
My issue is that the bluetooth drivers don't seem to allow you to scan so I have to hook up the usb cable, which when I'm in the middle of an assignment is just a pain. I guess you should never turn this thing off. I turned mine off for only a couple of minutes because I was looking for a noise and thought it was coming from the printer (it wasn't). When I turned it back on the computer automatically installed new bluetooth drivers for it, as if it had been completely uninstalled from the computer. I have tried all the other resets mentioned except buying a new card. Guess that's my next step. Thanks to the person that figured that one out!!! In case anyone is wondering, mine is 5 months out of warranty.
I have been a loyal hp customer for the last 15 years or so and it seems that they are getting worse by the product. My last printer had the print heads go up (when I just unplugged this one from the acutal outlet it came back with a printhead error, I hope that isn't going to be the same issue) and the one before that, I had to keep unplugging from the wall (not just the back of the printer, but the wall, there seems to be a major difference there for some reason). Now my TouchSmart computer is acting up and is running incredibly slow, I have to wonder is something isn't running the way it should, I have run antivirus etc. software and there doesn't seem to be an issue there.
I fear it's time to say goodbye to HP!! I feel like I've lost a family member after all this time.
