Hello @MikeyZer,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you have you have been prompted to sign up for Instant Ink on the printer. I would be happy to help you and please remember to return to this thread and mark 'Accept as Solution', if I have successfully helped you resolve the issue. If you wish to say 'thanks' for my effort to help, click the 'thumbs up' to give me a Kudos.
Your printer doesn't come with Instant Ink or trial subscription cartridges, therefore, you must have had Instant Ink service previously or you Installed Instant Ink cartridges.
Can you please remove all of the cartridges and look to see if they say Instant Ink on them? What are the numbers on the cartridges?
I look forward to hearing back from you. 🙂

Hello @MikeyZer,
Thanks for getting back to me. 🙂
You can most certainly use those ink cartridges if you sign up for Instant Ink. Otherwise, you will not be able to use them as they are subscription based ink only.
I hope this helps clear up any confusion. Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums! Good luck! 🙂

thye do say instant ink.. but i purchased this stuff at a store awhile back.... so i pretty much got beat correct?
If you bought them at a reputable local store, they should have been in packaging making it clear that you were buying an Instant Ink contract. The price you paid should have been the cost of the first month of the subscription, which started when you installed the first of the cartridges. (Not when you bought them.)
If you bought them, say, on eBay and the seller claimed that they were normal ink cartridges, then you got ripped off.
Note that you can sign up for Instant Ink for as little as $3 for the first month, use up the print allowance in that first month contract, and then cancel Instant Ink and go back to the non-subscription ink cartridges. And if you bought the cartridges from a legit store, they should have been in packaging that included the subscription information, and thus you've already paid for that first month and just need to activate it. (With Instant Ink, HP does not charge for the cartridges, only a monthly subscription fee for a certain number of pages and possibly an overage charge. You are paying by the page rather than for the ink.) If you do this, read the details -- they are pretty simple but I can't promise I got the details exactly right.
