I need to disable the copy function on some 500 MFP M575s. This can only be done through the web interface, whose password is unremembered and unrecorded. I have performed a factory reset, no effect. I tried the pre-boot menu, but IT is password protected, and again, nobody knows it. What to do?

Try a COLD or NVRAM Reset for the HP LaserJet M575 as documented here:

I did that. No joy. The administrative portion of the pre-boot menu is password protected as well, and the password is not 05057512.

Whelp, If you cannot cold reset your way around the problem then all you can try to do is reload the HD and try to wipe it out that way.  Newer models should keep the firmware installed on the HD instead of the formatter like they did in the past.

I would suggest contacting HP on this one to have them walk you through the process.  That way you have a little backup incase something goes wrong and they can send you a clean drive if covered under the devices warranty.  The HP reps may know of another work around to disable the printers password.  If they do then write back and share it with us.
