Make sure that they are on the same network. Go into the settings of the iPad and choose WI-FI.
Then after making sure that WI-FI is turned on, make sure that under Choose a network that the same network that the printer is on has a check mark next to it as that is the one that you will need to select. Then make sure that the option "Ask to Join Networks" is turned on and that Bluetooth is turned off.
If the device and printer still cannot find each other, they might be out of sync. To correct this, turn them both completely off at the same time, wait about 20 seconds after complete shut down and then turn both the printer and iPad back on.
