I have an old but brilliant little HP deskjet colour 3325 printer that I want to connect to my new Asus laptop/notebook (without a dvd slot). HP web site appears to be telling me that Windows 8 is not compatible?? I have connected the USB lead, it fits but nothings happens, read online can download driver (whatever that is!) Or Is there an app on wiindows 8 that helps? Any advice gratefully received. Can't believe I have to throw my little printer away!

It probably means they didn't make the driver for win8 but win7 driver can still work.

Don't through it away.

Try installing the windows 7 driver.

Also, make sure you are not trying to plug the USB cord into the 3.0 slot (usually a blue-colored port on the PC).  Try another USB port, then search Devices and Printers, click Add a Printer and when the Windows Installer pops up, click Windows Update and see if your printer appears (takes a while to load sometimes).  Click here for more instructions since there is not a Windows 7 driver either.

After clicking Windows Update in the Add a Printer Wizard, if you do not see your printer, my favorite generic printer is the Deskjet 990c driver, but in my link above it suggests any Deskjet 3600 will work.  I really hope this helps!  Keep me posted.

Hi just to say to all who replied to my question THANK YOU SO MUCH. I am still trying... did as suggested. The window update box popped up but did not give anymore printers just sent msg saying unable to do so and try later! Anyway, how I don't know, but is telling me MY printer is installed but am doubtful as printer will not print test sheet, sometimes boxes appear and tell me not connected to network, or check leads. HAVE checked all seems OK. Anyway even uninstalled my printer and tried again with same result. The ONLY thing is, though showing my DESKJET 3325 is installed and default, where model is given to the side it shows model as LASERJET 2605PS class driver. Can this be right? And if not how do I change it?!!

Here is a thread on how to assign alternate print drivers.  I hope this helps!  Keep me posted.  🙂

Could be a spooler issue too.

Again thanks for replies to my problem but I have now given up for the time being before I throw it out the window! Thought I'd done it, it installed the 990 and that was the first time I knew it had really installed (in box and all bells and whistles) and waited for printer to whirl into life and NOTHING! Just an box that said 'error' in the little printing box but would't say what the error was! In a day or so after I have had a lie down in a darkened room I shall confront the little beast again I shall not be beaten. Thanks again

Good luck!  You now have three different ways to do this.  I found JonW's post to be quite informative and hopefully where there is a will, there is a way.  Keep me posted and I really hope you can get this to work.

Have a great day! 😄
