copier does not work from both feeder and scanner.  Error message. the document feeder was not ble to pick up the original

The ADF (document feeder) works with a limited number of paper and paper sizes.

 

Specifications > Paper Handling

 

Paper weights

Automatic document feeder (ADF)
Paper
60 to 90 g/m2 (16 to 24 lb bond)
50 sheets

 

Edits - Corrected image to include all ADF paper sizes

 

HP OfficeJet Pro 8720, 8725, and 8728 printers

Error message. the document feeder was not ble to pick up the original means there is something inside ADF but not able to pick up the media. It is either due to paper jam from preivious job or ADF is not closed properly. 

 

Please refer section "To clear a paper jam from the document feeder" on page 118 and 119 on the user manual.
