The deskjet 310 is on the list of printers supported for Windows 7.  On the strength of this I bought an adaptor to link the printer to my new laptop.  Now I find that there is no Windows 7 driver for this printer and apparently it is not supported.

I have been unable to find a way to contact HP directly.

Could anyone suggest a solution (ie, will any other driver do the job?)

Cheers,

Loz

Hey Loz,

You are correct, this printer is not supported in Windows 7. Try this:

1. Open devices and printer
2. Click Add a printer
3. Click Add a local printer
4. From the Use existing port select the USB option, and then click next
5. Click on the Windows Update button to get all support window 7 drivers updated
6. Once update is finished. Click on HP from left menu, and then select the Deskjet 990c from the right menu, and then click next.
7. Follow the remaining instructions to complete the installation.

Once you have the 990c printer added make sure it is the default printer, and then try printing to your Deskjet 310 printer using this driver. Let me know if this works.

Thanks!

Sean

Hi Sean,

Thanks for your suggestions.  I've tried what you said but it seems to be stumbling at the "windows update" stage - I get the message "unable to update at the moment, try again later".  I've had that all evening so I'll give up for now and try again tomorrow.

Once again, thanks for your help.  I'll let you know how I get on.

Cheers,

Loz

Double check your internet connection to make sure it is functioning. Also reboot the computer to make sure we are not hung up on anything.

Hi Sean,

Sorry for the delay.

No, I'm still getting nowhere.  When I use the "Windows update" utility, I wait five minutes then it says "Windows was unable to get a list of devices from Windows Update.  Please try again later". I've been getting that for three days now.

I tried going to the HP site to download the driver, but it tells me that I don't need to download it since it's included in Windows 7, and isn't available for download anyway.

The Deskjet 310 is perfect for my needs but doesn't seem to have spawned any offspring.

Thanks for your suggestions so far, if you've any other ideas I'd be grateful,

Thanks again,

Loz
