e-Print not working.
Print Information Sheet from embedded web server does not print (clicking button does nothing).
Configuration Report says Web Services are Enabled.
e-Print page on embedded web server will not connect and will not show the email address for the printer, instead is says connection error - check connection and for e-mail address is says unable to handle request - try again later.
The printer in on my LAN using wireless connection and I can print from three different computers. Internet access from teh computers on the LAN works fine.
During initial installation (3 months ago) an Information Sheet was printed and I think I established an account on HpConnected site. I have an e-mail address for the printer I got from somewhere (probably the HpConnected site).
HP video instructions say to check firmware version first. HP Website does not provide any firmware information for this model - so I presume this means there are no firmware updates for this model. Without information from the Information Sheet I don't have a code to establish with HpConnect. Is this service not working now? The HPconnected website is accessible.
EDIT: I tried disable web services, thinking I would re-enable (turn the feature Off then back On) but it will not connect using the Enable button - says connection error check Internet; but as stated before, my Internet is up and working for the computers on the LAN. I tried cycling power on the printer & Router but get the same results. What can cause the printer to not connect to the Internet?
Any help is welcome.

Hi @wagb278,
Thanks for getting back to me.
Based on what your reporting with the XP boot, I'm thinking that the PC software isn't recognizing the printer's connection to your wireless network. Additionally, it's clear your webservices aren't enabled either. I don't have a lot of knowledge of proxys either, but what I do know for certain is that you won't need to have one running to complete this ePrint setup or to enjoy the wireless feature.
I suggest taking another run at the printer setup in XP mode with a usb connection to the printer. If you follow the instructions in this article you'll see how to convert the usb connection to wireless. Additionally, you can use the usb hookup to finish your firmware update.
Next, if you're able to access the printer's embedded web server again, try setting a manual DNS address before you enable webservices.
Complete the following steps to set a manual DNS:
- Input the printer's IP address in a web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer) and press enter to access that page directly.
- Click on the Network tab.
- In the left sub-menu, click Networking.
- Next, click on Network Address (IP).
- Click on Manual DNS Server.
- Input Manual Preferred DNS as 8.8.8.8
- Input Alternate DNS Server as 8.8.4.4
- Click on Apply to finalize this change.
Let me know if this approach works out for you.

Hello @wagb278,
Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum. :robothappy:
I understand you're unable to use ePrint with your HP LaserJet Pro M201dw. I would like to help you with this. I have some suggestions that might restore your connection.
Aside from your Linux machines, do you have a Mac or PC you can connect the printer to (either via usb or by installing the corresponding driver)? If you click here and set your operating system to any of the Mac or Windows options you'll see that there is a firmware update available.
If you do have Mac or Windows available, please let me know what version you're working with.
Please reply at your leisure.
Thank you,
E-roq

Thanks for the reply,
One of my computers still has Windows XP available (dual boot with Linux). I booted that up into Windows XP, it's been years since using any Windows software, and installed the Printer Software that permits connecting to the HP Laser Jet Pro M201dw. That worked and a MS Windows test page printed, but at the end of the installation process it reported that Printer was unable to connnect to the Internet. I selected the no Proxy option.
I have a basic DSL Internet connection with a wired Ethernet & wireless LAN in the house - this printer and a Tablet are the only wireless devices on the LAN. The printer can obviously talk to the Router and other devices on the LAN becasue all computers can print to it and they can access the EWS of the printer. I know nothing of Proxys - does something neet to be done to the Router or Printer to permit access to the Internet? There are no Proxys established on any of the computers on the LAN and they can all access the Internet just fine.
I connected to the printer's Embedded Web Server and tried to enable Web Services (Enable Button) and get the same as before - unable to connect. So, I checked the Firmware Date Code which is reported as being 20140515 so the installation I performed did not update the printer's firmware - not surprised.
I tried the Firmware update from the HP website. I downloaded the firmware with the date: 20150129 and attempted to run the install file but that repeatedly fails. I found no instructions on how to install firmware updates, but I suspect that cannot be accommplished using a wireless connection. Are there step-by-step instructions for updating Firmware for this printer somewhere?
So, two questions - Is a proxy necessary to get through the Router to the Internet for the printer and if so how/what do I do. Secondly how (what steps) do I perform to update the firmware on the printer; assuming that is realy necessary.
Thanks, again.

I was able to Enable Web services.
Changed settings Networking > Network Identification -
Domain Name (IPv4/IPv6): domain.xxxxx (value hidden in this message)
Priority list has Manual at top of list
DNS – Primary (IPv4): xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (value hidden in this message)
DNS – Secondary (IPv4): xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (value hidden in this message)
Apply – Warning notice about loosing connection – Ok!
Then on HP Web Services Tab – Enable, that worked and printed the information sheet. Giving instructions to activate your printer with HP Connected website.
After setting up an account and adding my device with the claim code provided by the printer a test e-Print email worked perfectly.
I have not yet updated the Firmware for the printer. It does not seem neceassry for my current situation, but now that the printer is connected to the Internet I should be able to use the instructions in the user manual related to updating Firmware through the front panel.
Thanks a lot for the help.
