Hey @ROS1,
Welcome to the HP Support Forum. :robothappy:
I see that you're encountering some setup issues with your HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fn Color Multifunction Printer. I would like to assist you with this.
I recommend you try the following steps:
Uninstall your printer
- Press the Windows key +r
- Type control panel and press Enter
- Click on Programs and Features
- Select your printer's driver from the list and click to uninstall.
Remove temp files from your PC:
- Press Windows key + r
- Type %temp% and press Enter
- Press Ctrl + a to select all files
- Press Delete
- Note that some files may not allow for deletion - not to worry, this is normal. Just click skip as prompted.
- Empty your Recycle Bin upon completion.
Download the Printer Install Wizard
Click here to install the HP Printer Install Wizard (instead of directly using the printer's driver). When you run it, this utility will facilitate what I'm hoping is a smoother and more effective printer setup. Should that cause further issues you can certainly obtain a copy of the Windows 10 printer driver here.
Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post. If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below and clicking to accept this solution.
Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum. Have a great day!

My reply was catered to another user's post and specific setup and should not to be taken as a one-size-fits-all solution for all HP printers.
Which Deskjet printer model do you have? The troubleshooting steps vary across models. Also, if you're seeing a print system or numbered error message that begins with '0x..' it's more likely hardware or firmware related than software-influenced. If your printer has a front panel, are you seeing the same error there or on your PC?
Please reply with details at your leisure if you still need help.
Thanks,
E-roq

I had this problem since upgrade to W10, and tried various things with no effect.
Finally found a solution which seems to have worked for me -
- Go into > Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Device Manager and check under the printer node
- If you have a "Unknown Device" showing under the printer - first make sure that you have the driver disk which came with the printer, or have downloaded the drivers to install
- Then uninstall the unknown printer device & reload the HP2540 drivers
- Device manager should now show the HP2540 printer under the printer node
Now that you've got the 2540 properly installed, the windows update error seems to be fixed

I have performed all of the suggestions in this post but I still am getting error 0x80240017 for my HP LaserJet Professional CM1410 Series PCL 6 printer when running Windows Update. My situation is slightly different in that my system is 64 bit.

Many people have the same error (as me)
If you wrote on Microsoft technet forum, they tell you to open a ticket with Hp.
If you wrote to Hp, they tell you to wrote on Microsoft forum.
It' not an Hp issue, It' a Microsoft issue.
They will solve the problem soon, and magically it will disappear 🙂

My Hp printer (1536 dnf) is updated with the last version of the driver.
It seems that windows update for some Hp printers finds an update that it doesn't exist.
When windows update tries to install the driver, it fails ... and that's normal ... The driver does not exist.
