Color Laserjet pro MFP M277dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I made a basic error by installing my new MFP M277dw "all in one" the same day I upgraded to Windows 10. I don't use a wireless network but my wife has wireless junk all over the place. I just have the unit connected directly to my desktop computer. As an aside, I don't like the fact that the scan menu doesn't say "save to computer". That complaint aside, when I click on the icon for the "HP CLJM277 scan" all I get is the error "HP CLJM277 Scan was not found".  I assume this icon was meant to initate some scanning software??   I did just upgrade the unit's firmware from the HP website if that makes a difference.  It prints fine and I was able to use some "HP scan and capture" app thing, and it did work.  Any suggestions on getting the basic unit to scan to my hard drive with the manufacturer's package? they used to allow cropping and image adjustment which is good for my applications.  Any help would be appreciated. thanks

Hi @don--18,

I'd be happy to help you get your scan software working. I understand you have just upgraded to Windows 10 and you have a USB connection. Let's start by running the HP Print and Scan Doctor, and if it can not identify or resolve the issue, we can run the Printer install Wizard to ensure you have the necessary software for Windows 10.

The HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free utility (tool) that helps to quickly resolve common printing, scanning and connectivity issues including but not limited to:

  • Connectivity:

USB: Verifies that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.

Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.

  • Device Status Test: Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.

  • Driver Check: Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.

    • Device Manager: Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.

  • Device Online: Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.

  • Print Queue: Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).

  • Port Match: Checks the port settings for the HP product.

  • Device Conflicts: Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.

  • Ink Issues: Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.

  • Print Settings: Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.

  • Test Print: Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.

  • Scan Tests: Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.

If that does not resolve the issue, post back and let me know if there are any symbols other than green check marks and what they are next to of course. The wrench is not always easy to spot as the wrench and the check mart are in the green circle.

  • If you see only green check marks (), the tool did not find any problems.

  • If you see green wrenches (), the utility identified an issue and corrected it automatically.

  • If you see yellow exclamation points (), the test failed and required user action, but the step was skipped.

  • If you see a red X (), follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the issue.

If the issue persists, as mentioned, I'd like you to download and run the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.

Thanks, I look forward to hearing back from you.

I ran the HP scan doctor and got all green arrows, however when I seletected "run a test scan" I got the error window "HP CLJM277 Scan was not found".  I tried to reinstall the printer and downloaded all the software, but the install wizard could not find my printer (maybe I needed to delete the printer first)?  I have screen shots of these pages but cannot attach to this reponse.

I have heard from a few others that they are experiencing an issue with the scan feature using Windows 10 as well. I wonder, can you scan using the preinstalled scan applications such as Paint, or the Scan app?

Another options is to use the HP Scan and Capture.

Please let me know if you can scan using any of these alternate methods.

I am having exactly the same problem on multiple Windows 10 machines.  I had the same result when I used the HP Print and Scan Doctor program.

Surely there must be a fix for the HP Scan under Windows 10.

I too am having the same problem.  I am running Windows 10, and I have a HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw.

Please help me!!!  I can't scan anything!

Same problem here. Two Windows 10 laptops (Lenovo T530 and Asus UX32) and no remote scanning with HP tools. Scanning by USB an "HP Scan" is working. Also using other apps like "Windows Fax and Scan" using network works. Just HP is not able to scan without USB cable.

HP Print and Scan Doctor does not post any error.

I just installed WINDOWS 10. I get the same error. Are there any solutions? I am able to print but unable to scan as I get the message "HP CLJM277 Scan was not found"
