I have bought the HP Envy 4500 and have discovered that I can't use it with wifi due to the settings at university.
Therefore I need to be able to use it with a USB, I have a USB cable but can't get it to work.
It says to put in the software CD and follow instructions until you are prompted to insert the USB but it just goes straight to internet settings and there is no option for anything else?
Please help!

Hello zarasophia,
Thanks for getting back to me with the Mac operating system.
I am going to give you detailed instructions on how we are going to install the printer.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
If you have the usb cable connected, please remove it from the Mac and from the printer and leave it disconnected until further notice.
The first link I'm going to give you shows Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system. Once this is complete, please go to the next link on how to Repair disk permissions.
Once the first two tasks have been completed, please click on the next link for the HP ENVY 4500 series Full Feature Software and Drivers.
Once the download is complete, run the installation and you will see the option to connect usb. DO NOT connect the usb cable until you are prompted to do so. If it is connected early, this will cause a conflict with the installation.
Please let me know how we made out and if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
Cheers,

Hi,
I think the problem is that I can't set up the software because the wireless connection I have at university doesn't have a password, it has invidual logins.
Therefore once I have downloaded the software and try to 'confirm wireless settings' it says "Device cannot be set up through a special wireless network". Can the printer work without the wireless connection as otherwise I won't be able to use it..
Thanks again,
Zara
