Hey sazalstevo,
There are a couple of ways to set the F4580 for wireless. You can either re-run the installation package for the printer (available by CD or from download off the HP website) and set the printer up for the network access by performing USB-to-Wireless or by following the information in the thread found here. For information about installing the printer and performing USB-to-Wireless click here.
Once the printer is on the network, then you will be able to access the printer using the Microsoft Surface. For information about how to install the printer on a Surface click here.
Hope this helps.

hi again,
thanks for the reply but the trouble shooting page for my printer you directed me to, to install it to be set up to my network, doesnt give me an opption for windows program that surface has, it only gives options for xp, vista & 7& mac os. also, i dont have the usb lead anymore (if you think i may need it)

Hey,
There are 3 links in the previous thread. One link is to a document on installing the printer through a USB-to-Wireless method. This means the printer would have to be installed on a PC with a USB cable then converted to wireless when the software sends the wireless information to the printer via the USB cable. However, you mention you do not have a USB cable anymore.
The first link in the post will take you to a thread about how to install this type of printer without USB-to-Wireless. This method uses the printer's ability to broadcast a signal to connect a wireless device to it. Once the printer and device are talking, then you have the ability to run the Wireless Setup Wizard in the embedded web server (EWS) of the printer. This can be performed with the Surface if necessary, but the post uses an iPad.
The last link the post will take you to a thread by Shane_R about how to install and use a networked printer with a Microsoft Surface running Windows RT.
Have you read through the other links to see if they will get you to where you need?
