Officejet 4630
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So, how do you open the HP Scan software on the computer now?  I had a shortcut icon on my taskbar, but when I upgraded to Windows 10, the shortcut disappeared & when I look in the HP folder, there is no HP scan to be found.  When I test scanning thru the print & scan doctor, the window does come up w/ scanning options, however that takes a rather long time to access & it's not really useful to use the scanner that way.

Thanks.

Christine

Hi @photochick

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I see that you're unable to locate the HP Scan icon for your HP Officejet 4630 e-All-in-One Printer after upgrading to Windows 10. I would be happy to help you and please remember to return to this thread and mark 'Accept as Solution', if I have successfully helped you resolve the issue. If you wish to say 'thanks' for my effort to help, click the 'thumbs up' to give me a Kudos.

I understand the frustration this has caused you. Windows 10 has made come changes, which removed the icon.

To create a shortcut follow these steps:

1. Search Windows for HP Officejet 4630 e-All-in-One Printer.

2. In the search results select the HP Officejet 4630 e-All-in-One Printer. This opens the HP Printer Assistant.

3. Click on 'Scan a Document or Photo", HP Scan opens.

4.  While HP Scan is open, right-click on HP Scan on the taskbar and 'Pin this program to the taskbar' to create a shortcut.

These are not the correct steps:

To create a shortcut follow these steps:

1. Search Windows for HP Officejet 4630 e-All-in-One Printer.

When you search "All apps" on the Windows Start Screen, you find "HP Officejet 4630 series"

2. In the search results select the HP Officejet 4630 e-All-in-One Printer. This opens the HP Printer Assistant.

When you select HP Officejet 4630 series it opens up "Printer Setup & Software" (to add or change printer connections or software) NOT the HP Printer Assistant.

3. Click on 'Scan a Document or Photo", HP Scan opens.

4.  While HP Scan is open, right-click on HP Scan on the taskbar and 'Pin this program to the taskbar' to create a shortcut.

This step works, but to get to it, you have to use HP Print & Scan Doctor & then choose the Fix Scanning issues & THEN when the HP Scan window finally opens, be sure to right-click & pin it to the taskbar.

THE PROBLEM IS ACTUALLY LOCATING THE HP Scan window which the above steps 1-3 did not do.

Hi @photochick,

Thanks for the reply.

It looks like you were able to create the HP Scan shortcut on the taskbar.

I would like to clarify a few points regarding your response.

  • Whether you're selecting the printer from the All Apps or using Search they produce the same results.
  • In addition, the Printer Setup and Software is loading up for you, because there is an issue with the driver or software. Otherwise, it would have loaded the Printer Assistant window as intended.
  • If you pinned HP Scan to the taskbar. Launch HP Scan this way, rather than having to search for the printer and launch the HP Printer Assistant.

Please download and run the Print and Scan Doctor, it should determine if there is an issue with the driver.

  • What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor (did it print or scan, any error messages)?

Please respond to this post with the results. Good Luck! 🙂

  • Whether you're selecting the printer from the All Apps or using Search they produce the same results.
  • Yes, but the initial search term was wrong-- I truncated it & got the correct result
  • YES, I know this, & that is why I pointed out the result in #4 above.
  • That was the whole point of the initial inquiry-- how do I find the HP Scan desktop shortcut so I don't have to launch HP Print & Scan Doctor every time

Please download and run the Print and Scan Doctor, it should determine if there is an issue with the driver.

  • What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor (did it print or scan, any error messages)?
  • As I stated in #4 above:  "This step works, but to get to it, you have to use HP Print & Scan Doctor & then choose the Fix Scanning issues & THEN when the HP Scan window finally opens, be sure to right-click & pin it to the taskbar."
  • I ran HP Print & Scan Doctor (v4.9)multiple times before contacting support initially.  It didn't mention any driver issues or give any error messages.

Please respond to this post with the results. Good Luck! Smiley Happy

I'm a different user but with same problem. EXCEPT, I have an all-in-one officejet 4630 NOT e-4630. When I follow your suggestion, I do not get an option to open the scan but the general troubleshooting menu. I should point out that the printer is available as an option in the system printer list from WORD, EXCEL, etc. and I can communicate with it from my computer via wireless internet connection but only to print.
