hp Photosmart 7510
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

All of a sudden, my printer will not print the black ink.   It started halfway through a page I was printing.

I checked the ink level and it was fine.... which I knew it should be because I can usually go about 2½ months or more on one cartridge, and it has only been one month since I changed it. (so it has been working fine for a month)

It is the main black ink with the pentagon symbol on it .... not the photo ink with the bowtie symbol.

I cleaned the printhead ,.... still would't print.    So I went out and bought another ink cartridge - in case there was some unknown problem with the one I had in it ... still won't print in black.

The other colors print fine .... just the black won't print.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I just read the post from careunitedbanff   and I tried all the suggested options also.     And I am also out of warranty.

Hi @dtinstl

I'd like to help you be able to print again. I understand your colored cartridges are working, but the black ink is not.  Please begin with the steps in the following document; Printer Prints a Blank Page or Does Not Print Black or Color Ink for the HP Photosmart 7510 e-All-in...

If you complete all of the steps in the document above and the issue continues, my own personal recommendation, not one of HPs, is to use the solution offered in the following video.  I only suggest doing this if the printer and printhead are out of warranty.  Hot Water Printhead Flush - HP Ink Series Printers with removable Printhead.

I have recommended this solution to others and have seen success, but I can not guarantee this will resolve the issue, it is an end of the line kind of effort. I hope it helps.

flushing it worked, Yeah!!!!!!! thanks for your help.

Although the printer is out of warranty, if the issue persists, HP may be able to offer you something. Maybe they can offer you a discount on a newer model, or discuss the option of replacing the printhead!  If after all of our efforts the issue remains, I suggest calling HP. If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Forums. I hope one of my recommendations resolves the issue.

Hi all.

I've had my PS 7510 for several years (out of warranty).  Black just stopped printing. Bought a new cartridge.  Didn't work and had no idea the printhead might be an issue.  On the HP support forums, I found a video that showed how to soak the print cartridge head.  Have to say this was very messy and lots of black ink drained out of the printhead. Had to do this twice to clean the cartridge.  I suppose this should have been done a long time ago, so I got lucky that this issue never popped up before.

BTW, it was unclear whether to:  (1) clean printhead under running water (2) soak it with warm water and paper towels in a disposable container.  There are multiple videos, so which is best??

As your video mentions - you "drain" your ink cartridges trying to soak/fix this issue.  Unlike others in this forum, I got a "printhead damaged" message. I'm probably facing about $150 of expenses to replace all ink cartridges and buy the new printhead part for $79.   Suppose I shouldn't complain as I've enjoyed 5+ years of great print quality with this model.

I'll look into a new printer.

Thanks!
