This will sound crazy but my printer will only print on photo paper if the paper is in upside down!

I loaded paper into the photo tray- it recognizes paper is in the try.  However, it won't print- says there's no paper in the tray.  It starts to print then errors out 'no paper'.  However when I accidently put the paper in upside down, it printed just find on the BACK of the photo paper!

I tried again with a new sheet of photo paper loaded correctly and again it wouldn't print- said no paper.  Being slightly crazy I decided to flip the paper over to see what would happen.  IT PRINTED- on the back of the photo paper.

What on earth is going on??  The paper has the directional arrows printed lightly on the back, does that mess it up for some reason???  it's HP premium photo plus paper in 4x6, glossy.

what on earth is  wrong with this thing?!?!?!?!

This sounds like your having a pick problem with paper. Is the paper slightly curled upward on the corners so that when you put it upside-down in the photopaper tray the corners look higher than the center edge? If so then try lightly reversing the curls on the edges so the paper lays flat when you put it in the photo tray.

Hi courtneymc,

Try restarting the printer and the computer, then use the info in the Printing Photos (Windows) to make sure all the settings in the software are set for your print job type - especially the paper type and size.

Let us know if this resolved your issue.

Hi,
No the paper wasn't curled or anything.  I have 4 copies of this picture on the BACK of the HP photo paper becuase i kept trying it thinking i must be doing something wrong- I would put it in, flip it over, and only ever got it to print wrong sided.  Her'es a picture of the picture printed properly on the BACK of the HP paper.

I *swear* it's something about the markings on the back of the paper.  Keep in mind the paper is supposed to into the printer with that lettering/arrows face up- the printer prints on the side of the paper facing down in the tray.  I can get OTHER photo paper -with much lighter HP watermark and no arrows printed on the back- to print on the correct side of the paper.

It's just this paper it will not print on it- it starts to print then says no paper.  Every.single.time.  but works fine with other photo paper or if this paper is put in shiny side (photo paper side) UP.

Can you provide the details about the photo paper. What's the specific name on the box, 4x6, glossy, etc.The verion of the printer driver you have installed on your Windows machine.

With these details I can narrow down the possible solution(s).

Hi,

the paper is old, don't have a box.   It's precut 4x6 paper, and you can see the back of it in the photo I posted.  there's a sticker on the plastic bag the paper's in- that says

PJ

Q1977-60027

product of switzerland

I'm sorry But I can't seem to find where to look for drivers.  but seriously why would that make it print fine on most paper just not on this paper which has dark printing on the back.   there's got to be something about it 'looking' at the back of the paper.

Here's what I can find in the devices and printers

not sure where to look for a driver but if you can tell me how to look it up I will.   Windows 10.

thanks!
