I just bought brand new ink for my hp 5512.  I replaced them and the color cartridges print fine but the black cartridge is not printing. Can someone please help. Please and thank you.

Hi kenziebear3

Try following the steps in the link below

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02914910

If that doesn't solve it then I'd suggest contacting HP phone support (do you know if the printer is still under warranty?)

Please let me know how you get on

Thanks

hp printer 5510 B111a not printing new 564xl black.  Have gone through all trouble shoot-clean heads 4-5 times, clean vent, unplug power, nothing seems to work.  Colors work fine.

Please advise

If the printer is within warranty I'd advise contacting Phone Support as you may require a replacement (seeing as you've completed the usual troubleshooting)

Could you please let us know how you get on?

Thanks

It seems the new ink cartridges are depositing dry ink in the print head on their first use. The print head must be cleaned before it will print again. You must clean it manually, pushing the clean print head button does absolutely nothing. Remove the ink cartridges, dolt a paper towel and wet one corner with hot water. BLOT, do not wipe the paper across the round metal screen using several corners of the towel until very little or no ink comes off. Then put the ink cartridges back in the printer and clean them again using the push button method. It should print now and allow you to align the new cartridges.

RRWorker, you are absolutely correct!  This is a known problem with this printer, as well as with many other HP printers.  I had this problem and researched all over the web for resolutions, only to find a bunch of folks not being able to print with black ink, just like me.  Then I found a Youtube video showing a guy who had the same problem with an HP printer, only his had a removable printer head.  He solved his problem by thoroughly washing the print head unit in a sink with only warm water.  I figured I would do the same and went to remove the printer head on the HP 5512.  Only, I found the printer head on this printer was fixed in a way that it can not easily be removed. What to do?

1. Grab a small stack of napkins, a small spray bottle filled with water (I used a 16 ounce bottle fitted with a window cleaner bottle sprayer), and an old toothbrush.

2. Turn the unit on and remove all of the printer cartridges.

3.  Fold one of the napkins into a thin strip.  Move the printer head to the left by hand and place the folded up napkin under the printer head unit, and move the unit over the folded up napkin.

4. Spray water over the black printer head location.  Lightly brush the screen with the toothbrush, then dab the water up with one of the other napkins.  Continue to repeat this process several times.

5.  Next, move the printer head unit back and forth over the folded (and by now, wet) napkins.  Do this several of times.  The napkin will soon become disgusting with black mucked-up ink.

6. Remove the dirty folded up napkin and replace it with a new, clean folded up napkin.

7. Repeat steps 3 - 6 several of times until the folded napkin can be picked up wet, but relatively clean.

8. Dry up all water by dabbing wet spots with clean napkins.  Dry, dry, dry everything as best as you can!

9. Replace ink cartridges and close top of unit.

10.  Add a piece of paper and print a test page requiring use of black ink.  It may take several tries - just do it.

11.  If after 4 tries you are still not able to print clearly, repeat steps 3 -10.   It took me 4 attempts before I was able to print clearly.  Now my printer is good as new!

I realize the dangers of voiding my warranty and causing damage to the print head by doing this method!  However, it works and the alternative would have been to toss the printer in the electronics recycling bin.

I would also like to flame HP for not correcting this problem or for not posting instructions on how to correctly fix the problem.  Many people spent a lot of money to buy these printers and they are suffering miserably.  I wish Consumer Affairs would issue a recall.

Good luck and best wishes for success!

Worked perfectly.  I had a feeling those XL ink cartidges would cause me some greif.  Thanks for having the problem solving skills we needed! lol.
