Hey Antonio2,

What is the operating system of the computer you are using with the HP Deskjet 5550 Color Inkjet Printer?

There are different driver packages for this printer depending on the OS and I will need this information to best assist in your case.

I have Windows 7 Starter operating system. I trust that this is what is required. Bear with me as I am a 78 year old beginner. Many thanks for your help

Hey Antonio2,

The deskjet 5550 does not have a full driver package available on the Windows 7 Operating System.  Please take a look at the information in the article linked below:

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01874725

To obtain ink levels one will have to print the Self Test Page from the unit.  For information about the Self Test Page please read the below linked article:

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693389

Try the following steps to access the Toolbox for this printer:

  • Open the Devices and Printers folder
  • Right click on the installed Deskjet 5550
  • Select Printer Properties
  • Select the Services tab
  • Open the HP Toolbox
  • Select Print a Test Page

Hope this helps,

Jason

Hi JudyNew,

The Deskjet 5550 requires you to print the Self Test Page from the unit.  For information about the Self Test Page please look below:

Print a self-test page

  1. Load plain paper in the paper tray
  2. Press the Power button to turn on the product.
  3. Press and hold the Power button.
  4. Press the Resume button four times. The self-test page prints.
I hope this was helpful I found this great information at www.hp.com.  Please let me know if you require more assistance.

Thanks,
