I'm disappointed to find this printer will not print both sides of page. Assumed any modern printer would do this. What model do I need to exchange this for...?...

Double sided printing is listed as "Duplex Printing".  It is available as selection in the "Special Features" menu.

Just went to the Products page...can't believe double sided printing is not on the Special Features menu. HP...!...You're not thinking like a shopper.

The Officejet 8100 is currently on sale at $99 (in the US...), see here for information.  The Officejet 8100 supports automatic duplex printing and has relatively large cartridges.  You might also look at the Officejet 8600 All-in-one.

 

On the HP shopping site the printers with automatic duplexers typically have an icon like this:

that indicates the product supports two sided printing.
