I just moved offices and now my printer won't print.  It will print the reports page I can select on the printer menu and it printed the "Test Print from the HP Print and Scan Doctor."  It won't print anything I manually try to print from my computer either via the USB port or over the network/wireless.  It always says "error."  Any help would be great!

Try turning the printer off and back on.

What OS are you using?

What connection type do you want to use?

Does it give any other information besides "error"?

What program do you have the problem from?

Do you have the same problem with other programs?

What port is the printer assigned to on it's driver?

I got it to work right after I submitted my question but now I'm having the same problem again.  I'm on a Sony Vaio laptop, Windows 7, over a wireless internet connection.  I can't print from Microsoft, Adobe, the internet, or anything.  When I go into "Devices and Printers," the icon says it's fine until I print, then it says it needs Troubleshooting.  The Troubleshooting deletes my document to print from the line and says it's fine now but I have the same problem again when I try to print.  I haven't had this problem until I moved offices a week ago.  It had been working well for several months.

Any help would be great,

Thanks!

Check the port that the printer is assigned to use, and make sure it's not set to the HP Rediscoverable port. If it is, set it to use a standard TCP/IP port. I've seen that cause this problem before. You can try running the HP Print and Scan Dr. It should find what's happening and clear it up, but it's not guaranteed to work. It's linked below.

How do I check the port?

HP Recommended
Click on the Start menu. Click on Devices and Printers. Right-click on your printer. Select Printer Properties. Click on the Ports tab. Scroll through the list until you find the port that's checked. That will be the port you printer is using. To change the port, click on New Port and select the type of port you want to use. Since it's networked, I would use the standard TCP/IP port, though, you will need the printer's IP address to assign this port. Let me know what happens.

I don't have a ports tab.  It's not connected to my computer though by a USB port, just by wireless.

It should still have a ports tab, regardless of the connection type. Make sure you selected "Printer Properties" and not "Properties" by itself. They will bring up different options and settings.

Thank you, I re-set the port.  I don't get the error message anymore, but it does say the printer is offline.  The print job is just sitting there.

Try turning the printer off and back on.
