Laserjet M1212
macOS 10.12 Sierra

My new mac is all set up except for the scanner function. It prints just fine via WIFI but it does not find the scanner function. I put on the HP Easy Scan app and it does not "see" the printer/scanner at all. Neither does Image Capture. I put the 5.0 driver update on and that added the fax option but not the scanner. I tried to load HP Easy Start but it does not find the M1212.

There is no manual scan option on the printer so what am I to do to scan documents?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the document.

Today when I tried the scanner function again--without making any changes--it worked! I was able to scan in Image Capture and identify the location for the scanned file to be stored.

However, in EasyScan, there was first a problem "finding" the M1212. Then after turning the device off/on and turning the WIFI off/on, I was able to scan but the interface with EasyScan did not give me a choice about the characteristics of the scan (e.g. dpi) nor did it specify where (or if) it stored the file. It did not show a thumbnail after the scanner ran.

I can plan to use Image Capture in the future but it would be helpful if you could offer any suggestion about how to make EasyScan work properly.

Thanks again.

Hi @dole

Perfect, I am really glad to hear that!

Please check the below video on to use the HP easy scan.

Thanks for the link to the video. That was helpful.

It seems that my M1212 device is trying to use the autofeeder when I press scan despite the fact that I have loaded the document to scan on the flatbed.

Any idea how to stop the feeder?

Thanks again.

Hi @dole

I recommend you to make sure that there is no paper in the auto feeder when scanning from the flatbed.

There is no paper in the autofeeder and has not had any paper in it.

Thanks.

Hi @dole

Follow below steps and check if it helps.

  1. Make sure the printer is idle, not making any sounds, before continuing.

  2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  4. Wait at least 60 seconds.

  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

  6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

  7. If the printer does not turn on by itself, press the Power button  to turn it on.

  8. Try Scanning again and note what happens.

Let me know how it works and you have a good day ahead.

Take care!

Hello again. It took a few days for me to return to this issue, but I tried your suggestion--unplug cord from printer while it was on etc.--and HP Easy Scan still does not work. When the app initiates, the auto paper feeder runs on the printer/scanner and it does not "find" the document that I placed on the tray.

On the good side, the Image Capture seems to work nicely so I guess I'll just use that.

Thanks for your help.
