I have an 8600 for a little over a year now.  All of a sudden, when using the ADF I get 1 verticle line.  No lines when using the  glass to copy or scan or fax.  I have been unplugging the printer about once a month and all is fine.  This time it didn't help the ADF document............help please, maybe a reset might work or suggestion of a printer/scanner/fax that gives me the same quality when working correctly.

Thank you in advance.

The likely cause is a spec on the ADF glass.  Clean this as shown in the post here.

I cleaned the ADF glass multiple times and left the unit unplugged for hours.  Not sure which solution worked........but it worked.

Thank you.

Same problem with laserjetM1217. Unplugged everything for 30 secs and bingo, lines gone and everything back to normal.

I need help getting rid of the vertical black line down the left side of my page when I use the copy function. I have turned my printer off and left it for about 10 minutes and that did not work. Any other suggestions?

Does the line occur only when using the automatic document feeder?  If so the issue is likely a spec on the thin glass used for the ADF.  See the post here.

Tried unplugging machine overnight.  Black lines still appearing.  Any other ideas?

Did you by chance get a fix for this black line problem? I have an 8600 only a few months old and it was perfect until today. There is one line down the middle when copying and scanning thru the single sheet feeder.

I might try to re install the software and see if that will help.  I tried unplugging it, going into the wall, and cleaning the glass but no luck.  Thank you.

The issue is likely a spec on the thin glass used for the ADF.  See the post here.  I would suggest cleaning this area again.  It may help to put a flashlight parallel to the glass (open the lid and shine the flashlight about where the HP Logo is on the left) to find the spec.
