We just openned the box and had the same exact problem. The printer was not even loaded with paper when the error message displayed stated "The original is jammed in the automatic document feeder" We followed the "show me" video with no success. We are running on FW LXP1CN1409BR.
Did anyone have success in fixing this solution permentantly?

The automatic document feeder is a customer replaceable unit and if your printer is in warranty and you contact HP then you will be talking to someone who can actually ship you the part or get you a whole replacement printer if needed.
The ADF Jam is usually a stuck plastic lever that is Used to detect paper in the ADF and HP support might actually be able to guide you to fix the problem. And as I mentioned before HP support can actually get a replacement ADF shipped to yo.

I'm out of warranty... can you provide info on how to fix/check the plastic lever?

Try this to see if there is a scrap of paper stuck where you cannot see it. If you have a sheet of "Cover Stock" that usually works to push out scraps if a sheet of plain paper will not feed through.

Thanks, but still no luck. I tried that video yesterday with regular paper, and again just now with card stock (3 times).
still reading, "The original is jammed in the automatic feeder (ADF). Open the ADF cover, remove and reload the original, andthen try again."

Hi,
It sounds like the problem you are having is that a piece of paper is stuck in the ADF and needs to be cleaned.
Can you please do the following.
1. Lift up the ADF so that you can see the scanner glass. Is there any paper stuck 1/2 way through the left side of the ADF that you lifted up. There is a pretty obvious place there where the paper comes through and then back out again. Make sure there is no paper there.
2. put your fingers (facing up) into where the paper feeds from the ADF. You want to push your fingers such that they follow the arrow in the ADF that shows where the paper goes. However, your fingers should be facing upwards. Right after the 1st hard ridge, you'll feel a little piece of plastic that flexes. This releases the top of the ADF and lets you get inside the top.
3. Push the green tab forward (towards the left of the printer. This opens up the paper path and will let you clear paper jams. Find any paper that may be there.
4. Pull the green tab back to the right. There are 3 positions it can end up in. You want it in the far right position.
Try these steps and let me know.
