When I scan a picture, it is scanned as a .tif instead of a .jpeg. I then have to take the time to crop the picture and resave it. There is no option on my printer or in the settings to make it scan the photo as a JPEG, but there used to be. How to a resolve this?

Hi ashleymarolo,
I understand you are unable to scan as a JPEG file format right now, just the TIFF format. I'm sorry to hear this, but will be happy to help once I gather a bit more information!
1. Which model HP printer do you have?
2. Are you connected via USB or wireless to the computer?
3. Which version of Mac or Windows are you working with?
4. If the full feature HP software is available, do you have it installed on your computer?
5. Are you using the HP software to scan, or a different program?
Once I have this information, I should be able to offer some helpful suggestions 🙂

1. Deskjet 3510
2. wireless
3. windows 7
4. yes
5. not sure, I use the buttons on the printer to select the scan options
I have previously scanned documents and photos as JPEG with the same printer computer combo, but recently the ONLY optionn for scanning is TIFF.

Hi ashleymarolo,
Thanks for the reply!
It sounds like something changed or was updated recently then, so we will try a few things.
I'd like you to initiate the scan from your desktop. To do this, on your desktop you should have an icon of your printer with Deskjet 3510 below it, once you open that you will see a Scan Document or Photo option. Once you click on that see if you have options other than TIFF.
I'd also suggest that you download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor and see if it has any suggestions for you to try.
Let me know how this goes!

Hi ashleymarolo,
Thanks for the reply!
Yes, you should have more options then what you have.
I will suggest that you follow this Uninstalling the Printer Software document to get the HP software removed, and then use the HP Printer Install Wizard to get the software reinstalled.
Once that is done try scanning from the software first, and if that appears to have more options, try to front panel of the printer again.
Let me know how this goes!!

The default image saving format can be reset easily. And Deskjet 3510 supports much more than tiff, like jpg and pdf, I used it but I am on Mac.

Hello @Luztraveler and welcome to the HP Forums 🙂
If you go into the software, are you able to choose other file types at all or .tiff is the only option regardless of what you choose?
If that is the case and you use a Windows operating system, please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, and let me know if it finds any issues.
Hope to talk with you soon!
