I am using an HP Split notebook pc, trying to print with an HP photosmart c4780 printer. I can print in black and white, but when I try to get color, I am getting nothing. I have removed the color cartridge and cleaned the contacts as the troubleshooting page instructed. I tried running a test from paint with a bunch of colorful squiggles and got 1 of 6 lines to show up in grey. The thing I am trying to print is from dropbox.com, if that makes any sort of difference. Any suggestions?

Hello @lunaleigh, pleased to meet you.

I see you have been troubleshooting an issue with printing in colour on your Photosmart c4780, and I may be able to assist you further.

Have you tried all of the suggested steps in Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP Photosmart C4600 and C4700 All-in-One Printer Series?

Does the Print Quality report have colour on it? (Steps for how to print a Print Quality Report are in the above document.)

HP regularly releases firmware updates that may also correct the problem you are experiencing. You can click on this link to see if a Firmware Updater is available for your operating system.

Are you using Genuine HP ink cartridges? HP recommends that you use genuine HP ink cartridges. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP ink cartridges or refilled HP ink cartridges. If you do not use genuine HP ink cartridges, the steps in this post might not resolve the issue you experiencing. You could also see how non-HP supplies compare to refilled or remanufactured cartridges from the Buyers Lab Report.

I would also suggest reviewing the Limited Warranty for HP Ink Cartridges and Customer-Replaceable Printheads for HP Inkjet Supplies.

If the issue continues, I would Contact HP Support for further assistance. Fill in the model number and the form to receive a case number. You can view all other ways of contacting HP from their list of Support Options.

Please let me know if any of these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks,

Yes, I tried the steps listed for troubleshooting, and it is a genuine gp cartridge. My husband informed me, however, that it is the original cartridge and sat in storage for a while, so it is most likely dried up from heat.
