Printdoc,

When I got home from work today I tried adding a printer according to your instructions and this time I was able to find the correct driver.  After this installation, I was able to print a test page.  Am I done?  If so, thank you.  It was actually pretty simple.  Maybe these instructions should be included with the printer and the install disk thrown away.

You are done when you are satisfied.

We just fixed printing.  Does scanning work or do you care?

Oh, well I need to fix scanning too--and copying.  I thought if I fixed printing that I also fixed scanning.  What's next?

HP Recommended

Copying is done at the front panel of the printer so we don't have to worry about that.

Scanning is done through the HP software (unless you use a Mac in which it is built into the operating system).  So, how completely did you get through the software install?  Can you find an HP program called ScanPro?

Printdoc,

I looked in programs and did not find the scan program.  Sorry I couldn't get back quicker.  It's that silly work for pay stuff.

HP Recommended

OK, now that the printer is on the network, perhaps the software install will go better.  Re-install the software from hp.com.

Printdoc,

I tried what you recommended and the software hung up again at the same place.  I looked in processes and the file that ran without end was hpznui01.exe.  I stopped this process. and the disk proceeded to the end, but, as far as I can tell the scanner still doesn't work.  I am getting very tired of trying to install this printer by doing the same thing over and over again without any success.  Do you have any suggestions other than running the same software again?  Sorry if I seem cranky, but I have been working on this for a week.

HP Recommended

I understand cranky when it comes to this stuff.  A quick search of hpznui01.exe yielded messages that indict the firewall.

What kind of security system do you use?  Have you totally disabled it during the  install?

Here is a message about how firewalls may need to be configured, but let's cross that later.  For now, let's work on you security system.

Printdoc,

I turned off the firewall completely and I turned off the antivirus completely and tried the install.  It hung at exactly the same place as before on exactly the same process.  Are there any options other than doing the same install over and over?  I still cannot find the scan program.

HP Recommended

OK, you can try an L3 uninstall, which should remove all remnants of the install, then re-install.

Run this batch file from the printer CD:  \util\ccc\uninstall_l3.bat
