I have a HP 7525 for only three days. So far it prints/fax and copies just fine. The only thing I can't understand is: it's on powersave and all of a sudden it starts up, goes through it's cycle and then goes black again. It does that if I'm on the computer or not, sometimes in the middle of the night. What can I do to stop that besides turning it off? I run Windows 7 and all the drivers are up to date.
thanks

Generally when its doing this it is running through its maintenance cycles and this will actually prolong the life of the printer. This will also mean as soon as you want to print something, you can print. If the unit has been off for a day, or even overnight, it will run this cycle when you first turn it on. If youre in a hurry this can cause some delays, so its up to you if you want to turn it off or not.
If you happen to use web services then eprint jobs and apps cannot print while the unit is off either.

I'm having the same problem. You identified what this is, but you didn't tell how we can stop the printer from cycling in the middle of the night without turning it off. I have apps set to print in the morning so I don't want to power it down, but the printer is in our bedroom and wakes us up.
Can I limit the maintenance cycle hours in settings somewhere? I really hope HP thought of this and included it in software options...

With all due respect, the answer doesn't make much sense from a longevity standpoint. I have been sitting at my computer the last 4 hours, and the printer has gone through a complete reset at least 6-7 times. The bell rings, the screen lights the carriage comes to life and cycles back and forth several times as if it is trying to print, but thank heaven, nothing comes out, it finally settles down, and after about two minutes, it goes back to sleep and the panel light goes out. It might be only 10-15 minutes, and it will go through this cycle again.
There should be a means of stopping this continual recycling. It is wearing itself out, to say nothing of the power consumption expended needlessly.
On the plus side, the printer does a beautiful job printing.
Is there any possibility that the printer is picking up a spurious network signal from somewhere that is causing it to recycle? It is logged into my network with an unbreakable password.
More to the point, how often is the printer designed to go through this restart. There must be software that causes this recycling to occur. That means that someone should be able to say, We have the software designed so that every - - - - -minutes? hours? the printer will restart to do what the above answer alleges is a normal function.
Thanks for any information that you can provide which will resolve this frustrating problem. As noted, the problem solved answer simply kicks the can down the road, and meanwhile, our printers are wearing themselves out at an unnecessary rate. This photosmart printer replaced an earlier version that lasted well without starting itself every few minutes.
There!! As I type this, is is recycling itself again. The bell rang, the home screen is lighted, and it is sitting there with the screen lighted, and nothing else is happening. This time, the carriage didn't cycle back and forth as if it were trying to print. It sat there with the home screen lightedd, and after 4 minutes, the screen went dark, and apparently back to sleep.
